The resultant magnesium compd.-contg. γ-alumina is heated at 1,100-1,700 deg.C in a gaseous mixture of >=0.5 vol.% gaseous hydrocarbon and gaseous ammonia to produce aluminum nitride and this aluminum nitride is heated at 1,600-2,000 deg.C in an atmosphere of an inert gas, gaseous ammonia or a mixture of them.

Furthermore, an interlayer having an intermediate composition of the titanium carbonitride substrate and the titanium carbide coating film or the titanium nitride coating film is preferably formed between the titanium carbonitride substrate and the titanium nitride coating film or the titanium carbide coating film by conducting the nitriding or carbonizing treatment of the titanium carbonitride substrate. The respective thermal expansion coefficients of the substrate and the interlayer and the interlayer and the coating film can be approximated by the interlayer to more strengthen bonds thereof.

摘要： PURPOSE:To produce a titanfum carbonitride sintered compact excellent in strength, toughness and electric conductivity by press-compacting a powdery mixture of titanium carbonitride with stainless steel and subjecting the resulting compact to pressureless firing at a specified high temp. CONSTITUTION:A blend of 70-95wt.% powder of titanium carbonitride [Ti(CxN1-x)] with 5-30wt.% powder of stainless steel as a sintering aid is wet-mixed in a liq. prepd. by adding stearic acid and paraffin to a toluene soln. to prepare a slurry. This slurry is dried and granulated and the resulting granules are compacted by cold isostatic pressing. The resulting compact is subjected to pressureless firing at a high temp. of 1,400-1,700 deg.C for about 1hr in an atmosphere of gaseous hydrogen or nitrogen to obtain the objective titanium carbonitride ceramic sintered member having high strength and high toughness and excellent in electric conductivity.
