摘要： An electroviscous fluid prepared by dispersing fine solid particles in an electrically insulating fluid. The fine solid particles have a specific gravity equal to, or greater than, that of the elctrically insulating fluid, and have a hydroxyl group on the surface thereof. The hydroxyl group is covalently bonded to a nonionic surfactant having a hydroxyl group and/or an -NH group as a hydrophilic group through a silane coupling agent, or polystyrene is covalently bonded thereto. The fluid is excellent in response, reproducibility, durability and thickening effect, particularly in dispersibility and shelf life stability, and can be utilized for electrical control of vibration control machines such as variable damping dampers, engine mounts, bearing dampers, clutches, valves, shock absorbers, precision equipment, acoustic instruments, etc., and for display devices.

The content of molybdenum originating in the dithiocarbamate, that of phosphorus originating in the dithiophosphate, that of the sulfur originating in the sulfur compounds, that of the detergent, and that of the boron originating in the boron compounds are 200-2,000 ppm, 0.02-0.15 wt.%, 0.02-0.30 wt.%, 1-10 wt.%, and 0.005-0.06 wt.%, respectively, based on the whole composition. The composition is excellent in oxidation resistance, does not undergo deterioration caused by nitrogen oxide gases, and can retain the effect of lowering the friction of engines for long.

The lubricant composition of the present invention has excellent low abrasion properties and can sustain good friction properties while exhibiting resistance to oxidation at higher temperatures in the presence of gaseous nitrogen oxides. The lubricant composition of the present invention is used preferably as a crankcase lubricants for internal combustion engines.

摘要： A novel basic metal salt of a dithiocarbamic acid represented by general formula (1) and having a basic component content (=ax3x100) of 30-100 mol %. In formula (1) R to R represent each independently a C1-C30 lipophilic group; M represents a metal atom selected from among zinc, copper, nickel, iron, cadmium, silver, lead, antimony, tin and bismuth; and a represents a coefficient in the range of 1/3 to 1/10, which salt does not contain phosphorus and can impart an excellent wear resistance when used as a lubricating oil additive; and a lubricating oil composition comprising a lube base oil and the above metal salt, excellent in wear resistance and friction characteristics, and particularly suitable as a lubricating oil for automotive internal-combustion engines.
