    • PURPOSE:To improve the working management by confirming a present position of a shield driving machine, predicting its future position, and automatically correcting the advancing direction of the machine to the optimal direction by inputting signals from various types of sensors to a computer network. CONSTITUTION:A control mechanism consists of sensors, an underground com puter, a measuring computer, and a control computer. Detection signals from a group of sensors attached to a shield driving machine body are inputted to the underground computer and sent to the measuring computer installed on the ground surface, and then the calculating operation is performed to con firm a present position of the shield driving machine. The calculated values are inputted to the control computer and analyzed by a statistical technique incorporated in Kalman's filter theory. Next, the future advancing direction of the shield driving machine is compared with a designed line and indicated, and a jack patter is automatically selected so that the advancing direction conforms to the designed line in future. Thus, the advancing direction can be optimally controlled.
