    • An X-ray table top has longitudinal grooves formed in the sides thereof, which grooves have an enlarged engaging recess. Sliding pieces which are respectively received in the grooves and made slidable lengthwise of the table top are movably fitted at one end to the enlarged recesses of the grooves and are connected at the other end to strip-shaped fastening elements of synthetic resin, one of the pair having on its bottom surface a number of generally J-shaped projections and the other having a number of inverted generally U-shaped projections on its upper surface. The fastening elements are overlapped with each other on a patient placed on the table top and pressed together, thereby to permit the projections on the opposing fastening elements to interengage with each other.

In a tomographic radiation equipment wherein the layer being photographed is substantially perpendicular to the axis about which the tube and photographic recording means are oscillated, and the photographic film is positioned so as to be parallel to said layer and the X-ray beam is obliquely incident on both layer and film, there is placed between the object and the film a tapered scatter-eliminating plate positioned such that the thinner section of the plate corresponds to that part of the film furthest from the source and the thicker section of the plate corresponds to that part of the film nearest to the radiation source. In Fig. 2 the couch 10 supports a patient 12 under an X-ray source 13 supported by beam 16 oscillatable about horizontal axis 15. A section of the patient 12 perpendicular to the axis 15 is being radiographed and photographic plate 14 is parallel to this section. In the path of the X-ray beam transmitted by the patient there is placed a wedge-shaped screen 18 preferably of lead supported by arm 19. The wedgeshaped section of 18 ensures that the rays from source 13 have an equivalent path length between source and film whichever side of the section under examination they pass through, ensuring that the detail of the desired section is not obscured by unequal illumination of the film.
