    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anaerobic bioreactor of which the methane fermentation efficiency is hardly deteriorated even after a long-term operation. SOLUTION: Organic matter-containing liquid S is charged into the inside of a fermentation tank 2 surrounded by a downward projected conical or hemispherical bottom wall 3, a cylindrical peripheral wall 5 connected to the upper part of the bottom wall, and a top wall 6. A fixed bed 10 of an anaerobic microorganism group is installed over the cross section of the peripheral wall 5 between the bottom wall 3 and the top wall 6 in the fermentation tank 2. The organic matter-containing liquid S in the fermentation tank 2 is pulled out from the top of the fixed bed by a return passage 16 with a pump 17 to be returned into a part of the fermentation tank 2 below the fixed bed through the outside of the fermentation tank 2. A return flow of the organic matter-containing liquid S from the return passage 16 to the part below the fixed bed is led to the tip end 3a of the bottom wall 3 by a guide member 18 to be injected downward, thereby an upward flow U of the organic matter-containing liquid S which spreads along the inner surface of the bottom wall 3, and passes through the fixed bed 10 uniformly is formed in the fermentation tank 2.
