摘要： A digital recording apparatus and a method for controlling a digital recording apparatus that provides for allowing the user to easily determine the available recording time that remains on a memory of the apparatus in response to a record command. According to an exemplary embodiment, the method includes steps of detecting a first user input representing a command to start recording, and enabling display of a first screen message responsive to the first user input, where the first screen message indicates a remaining recording time available on a memory of the apparatus. The command to start recording is a command that does not specify a total recording time, for example, by the user actuating a RECORD key on a remote control device associated with the apparatus. The present invention also automatically provides another screen message that allows the user to delete data from the memory if it is determined that insufficient available recording time remains on the memory.

The program guide has time information in a first axis and channel information in a second axis. Playback of a different digital program causes changes to the navigation path, which then changes the playback list. In one embodiment of the present invention, the selective filtering of objectionable audio content from an audio signal is accomplished by first marking objectionable audio content in the audio signal with filtering information that identifies the type of objectionable audio content (e.g., crude language, ethnic and racial slurs, cursing, strong profanity) and storing the filtering information and the corresponding location of the objectionable audio content for that particular audio signal. Objectionable audio content having filtering information corresponding to a stored replacement content code determined from a predetermined replacement setting is then automatically replaced with an audio clip corresponding to the replacement setting.

摘要： A method and a system for performing trick mode features in a personal video recorder without introducing a channel change delay during normal viewing. The method includes the steps of recording a video source signal (202) and concurrently bypassing the video source signal (204) to a display device, without experiencing any buffering delay associated with the recording step (202). During trick mode operation the bypassing step can be automatically terminated and a recorded version of the video source signal can be substituted (208) and sent to the display. The bypassing step further can include substituting, without any buffering delay, an alternate video source signal (230) in response to a user selection of an alternate video source signal channel. A user notification can be generated to acknowledge receipt of a trick mode command (210). The user notification can be terminated once the step of substituting the recorded version of the video source signal has been completed.
