摘要： A device for wide-field and high resolution imaging of an object surface includes first and second imaging modalities, a lens associated with the second imaging modality. The first imaging modality has a high resolution imaging means with a first observation line. The second imaging modality is arranged in an image plane at a first angle with respect to an object plane and has a second observation line and a wider imaging field than the first imaging modality. The lens associated with the second imaging modality is arranged in a lens plane at a second angle with respect to the object plane, where the second angle being equal to about one-half of the first angle. The first and second imaging modalities are mutually arranged such that the first and second optical axes intersect at a point on the object plane.

摘要： Methods for preventing damage to the epidermis during PDT induced using a pre-photosensitizing agent are provided. The methods of the present invention utilize spatial confinement to control formation of a photoactive species from a topicallyapplied pre-photosensitizing agent. In one embodiment, thermal inhibition is used to prevent the metabolism of a pre-photosensitizing agent in epithelial tissue surrounding a treatment site. In another embodiment, a chemical inhibitor can be applied to the epithelial tissue to inhibit the conversion of a pre-photosensitizing agent into a phototoxic species.

摘要： Exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure provide method and apparatus for facilitating stretching of a biological tissue by forming a plurality of micro-slits in the tissue. Each micro-slit can be less than about 2 mm or less than about 1.5 mm long, or even less than about 1 mm, such that small gaps that can heal quickly can be formed when the tissue is stretched. The micro-slits can be formed using a plurality of cutting arrangements or an ablative laser. The micro-slits can be formed in various patterns, including staggered rows, circular or spiral patterns, or random patterns.

摘要： An apparatus and method according to the present invention can be provided, e.g., for a cell specific laser therapy of atherosclerotic plaques, particularly to systems and methods for targeting endogenous light absorbers present within plaque macrophages and exogenous nanoparticle targeting. In one exemplary embodiment, an electro-magnetic radiation can be forwarded to an anatomical structure. The electro-magnetic radiation may have at least one property configured to (a) modify at least one characteristic of at least one first cell, and (b) minimize any modification of and/or modify at least one characteristic of at least second cell. The first and second cells may be different from one another, the characteristics of the first and second cells can be different from one another, and the first cell and/or the second cell may have at least one macrophage feature, and the characteristic of the at least one first cell and/or the at least one second cell can be temperature. According to still another exemplary embodiment, a location associated with the first cell and the second cell can be determined. For example, the electro-magnetic radiation can be forwarded in a vicinity of the location.

摘要： The present invention is directed to a novel multi- wavelength imaging method and apparatus that enables rapid imaging of tissue regions with accurate identification of tissue types within the region. Optical properties, such as co- polarized or cross-polarized fluorescence or reflectance intensity, optical density and/or reflectance, can be determined at a plurality of locations within the tissue region for each wavelength. Said properties at the two wavelengths, including calculated derivatives of the optical property with respect to wavelength, can be analyzed to image tissue structures and identify tissue types within the tissue region more accurately than can be achieved based on properties measured at a single wavelength.

摘要： Exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure provide method and apparatus for effecting (e.g., lightening) an appearance of skin by cooling or freezing small separated surface regions of the skin to produce regions of local hypopigmentation. The width of the regions can be, for example, smaller than about 1 mm or 0.5 mm, and a distance between these frozen regions can be greater than about 3 times the width of the regions. An exemplary apparatus can be provided that includes a plurality of spatially-separated thermally conductive arrangements that can be affixed or otherwise coupled to a base. For example, the conductive arrangements can be regions of conductive material provided in or proximal to a thermal insulator, or thermally conductive protrusions affixed to the base. The conductive arrangements can be cooled and then contacted with the skin surface to produce the small regions of hypopigmentation.
