    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid resin material containing metal oxide ultrafine particles coated with a polymer having high dispersivity in a resin with low viscosity such as a liquid resin, which is excellent in blendability with a liquid resin and suitable as a substrate of a coating material.
      SOLUTION: The metal oxide ultrafine particle coated with a polymer is obtained by forming a metal oxide ultrafine particle coated with a silane whose surface is coated with an organic silane compound formed by reacting a metal oxide ultrafine particle having a particle diameter of 1-100 nm of 100 pts.wt. and a silane compound having a hydrolysable group X and a carbon-carbon double bond and then radically polymerizing a monomer containing an acrylate as a major component of 1-10,000 pts.wt. in the presence of the metal oxide ultrafine particle coated with a silane and a radical polymerization initiator.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide surface-modified zinc oxide fine particles which are stably prevented from flocculating for a long period of time and can be easily uniformly dispersed in solvents or resins, and in which zinc oxide fine particles have an number average particle diameter of ≤20 nm; and to provide surface-modified zinc oxide fine particles which are liquid at normal temperature and pressure.
      SOLUTION: The surface-modified zinc oxide fine particles are obtained by modifying the surfaces of zinc oxide fine particles having a number average particle diameter of 0.5-20 nm with a silane compound expressed by formula (1): R

      (4-a) (wherein, R is 1-18C monovalent organic group; X represents a hydrolyzable group; and a is 1, 2 or 3), and have a molar ratio of Si to Zn of 0.1-5. The surface-modified zinc oxide fine particles can be stably stored without flocculating for a long period of time and easily uniformly dispersed in solvents or resins.
