    • Example embodiments presented herein are directed towards a stateless mobility management node (110, 111, 115), and corresponding methods therein, for handling a mobility procedure for a wireless device (101) within a wireless communications network (100). The example embodiments provide for the management of a common external database (124) shared by the stateless mobility management node (110, 111, 115) and at least one other stateless mobility management node, and storing context information for wireless devices served by the stateless mobility management nodes. Such management allows for migrating the network towards a virtualized and stateless architecture. Thus, stateless mobility management nodes with an external database may interoperate with legacy stateful mobility management nodes.

    • The embodiments herein relate to a method performed by a mobility node (105a, 105b, 305a, 305b) for handling a UE (101) which has moved from an old to a new location. The mobility node receives a TAU/RAU request message from an eNB and in response retrieves UE context information from a database (315) being accessible by the old and new mobility nodes and the old and new serving (first) gateways (S-GW). The mobility node determines whether there is a change of mobility node (105a, 105b, 305a, 305b) and first gateway (S-GW, 110a, 110b, 310a, 310b) at the new location. When there is a change of the first gateway (110a, 110b, 310a, 310b), the mobility node initiates setup of a tunnel between a second gateway (P-GW, 115, 318) and a new first gateway (110b, 310b). When there is a change of the mobility node (105a, 105b, 305a, 305b), the mobility node provides a subscriber server (HSS, 128, 308) with UE context for a new mobility node (105b, 305b) at the new location. The mobility node transmits updated UE context to the database (315).
