    • The invention relates to a method performed by a node in a wireless 5 communication network (10) of estimating parameters used for determining a signal-to-interference measure at a wireless communication device (11) served by a base station (12), and a node performing the method. In a first aspect of the invention, a method at a node in a wireless communication network (10) of estimating parameters used for determining 10 a signal-to-interference measure at a wireless communication device (11) served by a base station (12) is provided. The method comprises acquiring (S101) an estimate of channel condition between the communication device (11) and the serving base station (12), and between the communication device (11) and at least one base station (13) of a neighbouring cell, estimating 15 (S102) the signal-to-interference measure using the estimate of the respective channel condition and acquired output power and Physical Resource Block (PRB) utilization of each of the base stations (12, 13), to be complied with when communicating with the communication device (11), and receiving (S103), from the communication device (11), an indication of quality of a 20 channel via which the communication device is served by the base station. The method further comprises determining (S104) whether a change in the estimate of the signal-to-interference measure is required based on said indication of channel quality, and if so updating (S105) the estimate of the channel condition between the communication device (11) and the serving 25 base station (12) and/or between the communication device (11) and the at least one base station (13) of a neighbouring cell to attain the required change in the estimate of the signal-to-interference measure.

    • The power levels of signals transmitted by base stations in a communication are controlled. Power level control commands are transmitted from a remote station to base stations from which the remote station receives signals to control the power levels of the signals transmitted by the base stations. A determination is made whether the remote station simultaneously receives a first signal from a first base station and at least one second signal from at least one second base station that include substantially identical message information. The first and second base stations transmit first and second reports of power levels of the first and second signals, respectively, to the controller. The controller compares the first and second reports and transmits first and second commands for adjusting the power levels of the first and second signals to the first and second base stations, respectively. The power level control commands are transmitted from the remote station to the base stations less frequently during macrodiversity to reduce the signalling requirements between the controller and the base stations. Also, the step size of the adjustment of the power levels of the first and second signals by the controller is reduced during macrodiversity to reduce the signalling requirements. This power control method is particularly beneficial for a CDMA system.
