    • A method of handling a request to set up a call between a calling party and a called party in a communication network. A switching node that serves the called party receives a request to set up a call from the calling party, and the request includes information identifying the calling party. The switching node invokes a call handling service for a comparison between the information identifying the calling party with identities of calling parties in a remote database, the identities having been provisioned by a third party. This allows a third party to provision information in the database that can be used for all subscribers to the call handling service. On the basis of the comparison, a decision is made on whether to set up the call or whether to invoke alternative call handling procedures such as barring the call or diverting the call to, for example, a voice mailbox.
