The safety device has a first fuse means (20), which is connected between the battery cells (13a-b) of the battery unit (12) and a first terminal (24) of the apparatus (11) for receiving charging current from the charging device (16), and a second fuse means (21), which is connected between the battery cells of the battery unit and a second terminal (26) of the apparatus (11) for supplying power to the electric circuitry (14) in the apparatus. The fuse means (20, 21) are operatively independent from each other, particularly in that the second fuse means (21) maintains the electric connection between the battery unit and the electric circuitry in the apparatus, even when or if the first fuse means (20) releases or opens in response to an undesired condition in the charging device.

摘要： A method and apparatus for maintenance charging a battery is disclosed. A battery is fully charged using conventional CC-CV techniques and subsequently is maintenance charged by applying a first maintenance voltage to the battery for a first predetermined time period. If desired, a second maintenance voltage may be applied to the battery for a second predetermined time period. An apparatus for maintenance charging a battery utilizes a timer and a charge controller to apply a maintenance voltage to a battery for a predetermined time period.

摘要： Digital, serial communication over an interface between an electronic device (102) and a battery (103) attached thereto comprises transmission of bytes (300) consisting of a number of bits. Each bit is defined by one of a high level and a low level, and a leading bit (304) of each byte is of a first one of said high and low levels. The method comprises the step of transmitting the other of said high and low levels for a first period of time (403, 405) immediately prior to said leading bit (304). When the leading bit of a byte is always of the same level (i.e. either high or low) and a period of the opposite level procedes the leading bit, it is very easy and simple to ensure that the sending as well as the receiving party is ready for the communication to take place and adjusted to the actual direction of communication.

摘要： The invention relates to method of synchronizing a second communications means in a battery attached to an electronic device to a first communications means in said electronic device, wherein bytes consisting of a nubmer of bits are transmitted between said electronic device and said battery by means of said first and second communications means using digital, serial communication. A predetermined bit sequence is appended to at least some bytes prior to the transmission from said first communications means to said second communications means. Said bit sequence is detected in the signal received by said second communications means. The time interval between given shifts in the detected bit sequence is measured, and said synchronization is performed by means of said measured time interval. The invention also relates to a battery and an apparatus including a battery having communications means which is adapted to be synchronized in accordance with a received signal.
