    • A method and device for controlling a mobile user equipment being in radio communication with base stations of a wireless communication system. The transmit power of the user equipment is controlled by the communication system. Immediately before sending an event message by the user equipment, the transmit power is increased by the user equipment, in order to increase the likelihood that the message is properly received by the base station. The message may be a soft handover event message. The transmit power is increased by opening a closed loop power control circuit, which normally controls the transmit power of the user equipment. By opening the closed loop circuit, the user equipment takes over the control of its transmitted power for increase thereof. Following the sending of the message, the user equipment may control the base station to send with increased power by increasing a target signal-to-interference ratio value (SIR ref ) by means of which the base station power level is controlled. In this way, the likelihood of receiving any acknowledgement messages and event messages from the base station is increased.

    • Methods and apparatus that improve interference (Ι) estimation in CDMA systems in which the DPCH is sorted under a scrambling code different from the scrambling code of a channel such as the CPICH are described. In such systems, DPCH Ι-estimation cannot be done by measuring on the CPICH and transforming to the DPCH due to the different interference situations on the two channels. Instead, the DPCH interference is estimated by using knowledge of empty channelization codes in the alternative or secondary scrambling code that can be used for Ι estimation, or using symbols (e.g., control symbols on the DPCCH) on the DPCH, or searching for an empty channelization code and using a found empty code for Ι-estimation.These techniques improve the SIR estimate in comparison to prior techniques and hence also improve the performance of power control, increasing the system’s capacity.

    • The invention relates to a technique for mobile assisted handover in mobile communications networks, e.g. Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks, in a situation of an ongoing data reception or data transmission of a mobile terminal which hinders reception of system information from a candidate cell for handover. A method embodiment of such technique is performed in a mobile terminal and comprises the steps of accepting information related to an ongoing data reception / transmission from at least one data reception / transmission component of the mobile terminal; establishing if the ongoing data reception / transmission enables a reception of a unique cell identifier indicating a candidate cell for handover; selectively halting the ongoing data reception / transmission, receiving the unique cell identifier of the candidate cell, and resuming afterwards the data reception / transmission.

    • Teachings presented herein provide reduced computational complexity and/or memory requirements for a mobile terminal to determine the power backoff required for a multi-carrier uplink signal. In particular, the mobile terminal determines whether its power headroom falls below a pre-defined power headroom threshold, indicating that it is headroom limited. If so, it5 quantizes power allocated to each carrier of the multi-carrier uplink signal according to a pre-defined quantization policy. In doing so, the mobile terminal thereby reduces the possible configurations that may be selected for the multi-carrier uplink signal. Thus, in one embodiment, the mobile terminal stores the required backoff in a look-up table for only the configurations that may be selected when the mobile terminal is headroom limited. This relieves10 the memory requirements of the mobile terminal as compared to storing the required backoff for all possible configurations of the multi-carrier uplink signal.
