摘要： Link quality control information is generated by receiving a received signal from a front end receiver. Time dispersion information is then estimated during a synchronization of the received signal. Then, link quality control information is generated using the time dispersion information. The link quality control information includes information pertaining to an optimal tansmission parameter. The link quality control information can be transmitted back to a unit that transmitted the received signal so that the appropriate transmission parameters may be adjusted.

摘要： Method, apparatus, and system for exchanging information in a communication system having a plurity of transmission schemes are presented. A first power level is selected at which slices of information are capable of being exchanged over a communication link at a first slice rate. A first transmission scheme is selected that produces an acceptable link performance when exchanging information over the communicaiton link at the first power level. The first power level is reduced to a second power level. A second transmission scheme is selected for exchanging information over the communiciaton link at the second power level that produces at least the acceptable link performance produced when exchanging infomraitn over the communication link at the first power level using the first transmission scheme. Slices of information are exchanged over the communication link at the second power level and at a second slice rate using the second tranmission scheme. The second slice rate is at most equal to the first slice rate multiplied by a ratio of the first power level divided by the second power level.

Information is exchanged between a multi-mode terminal and at least one base station using a first access technology, the multi-mode terminal being capable of exchanging information with the at least one base station using a number of access technologies. The type of information exchanged is identified, and at least a second access technology is determined, different from the first access technology, that is capable of exchanging information of the identified information type. The first and at least second access technologies form a set of compatible access technologies. A determination is made as to the minimum radiated power level needed to exchange the information with the at least one base station for each of the compatible access technologies. An optimal access technology requiring a lowest amount of battery energy among the set of compatible access technologies is selected to maintain the minimum radiated power level needed to exchange the information between the multi-mode terminal and the at least one base station.

Alternately, the first portion of the received signal may be derotated by different amounts, to produce a plurality of derotated signals that are correlated with the signal representing modulation used by the communication system, in order to detect the type of modulation used. If the correlation does not result in a determination of the modulation type, either a predetermined modulation type is selected or the decision of modulations type is made at a later stage, based, e.g., on a comparison of signal qualities or equalization results.

摘要： A method and system for communicating data between an integrated circuit (12) and each of a first device (14) and a second device (18). Communications between the integrated circuit and the first device use a first interface protocol, while communications between the integrated circuit and the second device use a second interface protocol. Both interface protocols, however, share the same data bus (22) and clock bus (24). To communicate using the second interface protocol, the first device, which uses the first interface protocol, is first deactivated by sending address data via the shared data bus that does not identify the first device, thereby causing the first device to enter an inactive state until a stop condition is detected on the shared data bus (22). Then, communications using the second interface protocol can be carried out, provided that a start or stop condition for the first interface protocol is not inadvertently generated on the shared data bus (22).
