    • A measuring node (700) in a wireless network (100) sets switching points for a plurality of measurement groups, performs measurements of signals transmitted from one or more cells corresponding to a group, and switches, at each switching point, from performing measurements according to one measurement group to performing measurements according to the next measurement group. The signals are transmitted by the cells in measurement occasions that repeat in a pattern. A switching point is a time by which the measuring node (700) node is expected to complete, at least in part, measurements of the one group and be ready to proceed with measurements of the next group. A configuring node (600) sends assistance data to the measuring node (700) to enable the measuring node (700) to determine the switching points for the measurement groups.

    • Processing implemented by a method and apparatus herein advantageously addresses degradations to the quality of reference signal measurements and/or to the quality of serving cell data reception that would otherwise result from a wireless device (36) measuring different cells' reference signals over different bandwidths. The processing addresses these potential degradations by intelligently configuring the bandwidth over which different cells actually transmit reference signals. In this regard, the processing includes identifying (100) the cell bandwidth of each cell in a set of cells that transmit reference signals likely to be measured during a given measurement session of a wireless device (36). Processing then entails selecting (110), as a function of the cell bandwidths, a reference- signal bandwidth over which reference signals are to be transmitted from at least a subset of the cells in the set. Finally, processing includes configuring (120) at least each cell in the subset to transmit reference signals over said reference-signal bandwidth.

    • In one aspect, the present invention provides a simple method of signaling reference signal muting information to receiving radio equipment (50), such as items of user equipment (UEs) (20). The reference signals may be positioning reference signals and/or cell-specific reference signals, for example. In one or more embodiments, the present invention proposes a general solution whereby the receiving radio equipment (50) is informed not only on whether muting is used in general in a cell, but also the particular timing and formatting of such muting. Further, the contemplated method provides for the use of dynamic muting patterns, and thus avoids the need for statically defined muting patterns, and provides for coordinated muting control, across two or more network cells. In at least one embodiment, static or less dynamic aspects of the muting configuration is signaled via higher-layer signaling, while lower-layer signaling is used to signal more dynamic aspects of the muting configuration.
