    • Apparatus and method for reducing an air interface load in a communication network. A base station is provided with a receiver adapted to receive signals from a terminal via a Dedicated Physical Control Channel (DPCCH) and a second control channel. A measuring unit measures a signal to interference ratio (SIR) of the DPCCH. An effective SIR determining unit determines an effective SIR on the basis of the measured SIR of the DPCCH and an estimate of the SIR of the second control channel. A comparison unit compares the effective SIR with a target SIR, and a power determination unit determines a power control command for controlling power usage for the DPCCH on the basis of the comparison. A transmitter sends a message to the terminal, the message including the power control command. The invention allows the DPCCH power (or DPCCH SIR) operating point to be maintained at a low level.

    • A method in a signalling device (150) for assisting in positioning of a user equipment (120) based on time measurements is provided. The signalling device is associated to an s-cell (160), the s-cell (160) being recognized by the first network node (110) as an s-cell with limited functionality and is therefore not considerable for the user equipment (120) as a candidate cell for serving the user equipment (120) for data transmission The signalling device associated s-cell is comprised in a positioning neighbour list of neighbour cells. The neighbour cells in the list are adapted to be performed time measurement on by the user equipment for enabling positioning. The signalling device is configured to transmit predefined reference signals in predefined subframes and according to a predefined pattern relating to preselected subcarriers and preselected time slots within a subframe. The signalling device obtains synchronisation information. The signalling device transmits reference signals according to the configuration and being synchronized according to the obtained synchronisation information. This enables the user equipment to receive and perform time measurements on the transmitted reference signals for positioning when the signalling device associated s-cell is comprised in the positioning neighbour list.

    • A method for uplink channel estimation comprises providing (210) of a channel state model in a channel estimator. An uplink radio signal of a present time slot is obtained (220) in the channel estimator as well as a series of transmit power control commands (230) issued for controlling a transmit power of the uplink radio signal. A delay between the time a transmit power control command is issued and the time that the transmit power control command is applied is estimated (232) based on measurements of the particular received uplink radio signal. Channel states are adapted (234) based on a transmit power control command compatible with the estimated delay. After the adaptation, channel states of the present time slot are estimated (240) in the channel estimator, by tracking the demodulated uplink radio signal with the channel state model. A channel estimator performing such method is also described.

    • A method in conjunction with positioning of a mobile terminal in a cellular telecommunication system is disclosed. According to the method, an end user's requested positioning accuracy for the positioning of the mobile terminal is determined (510). Also, an estimated confidence value for the positioning of the mobile terminal is determined (520), and so is a required confidence value for the end user (530). Then, a pre-scale value is produced (540) based on at least the estimated confidence value and the required confidence value. The pre-scale value is applied (550) to the requested positioning accuracy to obtain a pre-scaled requested positioning accuracy. Then, the pre-scaled requested positioning accuracy is sent (560) in the cellular telecommunication system towards the mobile terminal.

For a Long Term Evolution (LTE) radio access network (RAN) case the scaling can be performed in the evolved Serving Mobile Location Center (eSMLC) node (26). In another case the scaling can alternatively be performed in the wireless terminal itself.
