    • A packet switch 40 comprises wavelength tuneable optical transmitters 12, an optical switch fabric 42, optical detectors 30 and a controller 32.     • A wireless communications link 10 comprising an RF link 12 and a free space optics (FSO) link 14, a switch 16, RF signal monitoring apparatus 18, optical signal monitoring apparatus 20, alarm apparatus 22, 24 and a controller 30.
