    • Disclosed herein is a method for managing an Internet connection and informing a user about connectivity to the Internet (7) of a user terminal (2) via a gateway (3), the gateway (3) being connected to the user terminal (2) via a local area network (4), and to an Internet Service Provider (5) via a broadband line (6). The method includes: remotely provisioning through said first communication link the configuration of said gateway for Internet connection; detecting completion of configuration of the gateway (3) for Internet connection in accordance with a service subscribed by said user, determining the state of the broadband line (6); and providing the user with a visual indication of availability of connectivity to the Internet (7) when configuration of the gateway (3) for Internet connection is completed and the broadband line (6) is active; and managing the activation and deactivation of the connection to the Internet (7) by user terminals (3) connected to a gateway (3) via the local area network (4).

    • A method (200) is proposed for estimating, in a broadband communication system (100) comprising an access network (105) and a plurality of broadband communication lines associated with the access network, a sustainable speed that can be sustained by a selected broadband communication line of said plurality. The method (200) comprises: for each broadband communication line of said plurality, monitoring (115), at monitoring time instants, an attainable speed that can be attained over the line; for each broadband communication line of said plurality, determining (205,210) an attainable speed change that affects the broadband communication line over a monitoring time period comprising a plurality of said monitoring time instants; grouping (215) the broadband communication lines of said plurality into lines groups, each lines group comprising lines associated with a same access network portion and sharing at least one line property; determining (220-235), for each lines group, an expected maximum attainable speed change based on a statistic of the attainable speed changes that affect the broadband communication lines of the lines group over said monitoring time period; and estimating (240-265) the sustainable speed of the selected broadband communication line based on the respective attainable speeds monitored at said plurality of said monitoring time instants of said monitoring time period, and on the expected maximum attainable speed change determined for the lines group which the selected broadband communication line belongs to.
