    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backing treatment method which reduces hydrogen content and avoides lowering of the material quality caused by hydrogen brittleness of a titanium alloy subjected to plasma carburizing treatment after solution heat and aging application. SOLUTION: Hydrogen having entered into the titanium alloy in the carburizing treatment process can be removed by subjecting the titanium alloy which has been subjected to the plasma carburizing treatment after solution heat treating and age hardening to the baking treatment comprising keeping the titanium alloy at a temperature of not lower than 200 deg.C to the lower temperature in the carburizing treatment for 30 min to 10 h. In the case when the treatment conditions mentioned above are selected, lowering of mechanical properties such as fatigue strength caused by hydrogen brittleness can prevented, lowering of the material quality can be avoided, the wear resistance and sliding property are improved by a hardened layer of TiC formed on the surface layer part of the titanium alloy, so that the characteristics required for screw parts or the like used in an aircraft can be satisfied.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a baking method for reducing a hydrogen content in pure titanium carburized with plasma, in order to prevent the degradation of fatigue strength caused by hydrogen embrittlement. SOLUTION: The baking method for pure titanium carburized with plasma is characterized by baking the titanium in a vacuum atmosphere of 15 Pa or less, at 200 deg.C or higher but at a lower limit temperature of plasma carburization treatment or lower, for duration of 30 minutes to ten hours, after plasma carburization treatment, to remove the hydrogen which has invaded in the titanium metal during the carburization treatment. If the treatment condition is suitably selected, the method can prevent degradation of fatigue strength caused by hydrogen embrittlement, improve abrasion resistance and sliding properties due to a quench-hardened layer of TiC formed on the surface of the pure titanium, without causing material deterioration, and satisfy characteristics required for threaded fasteners employed by various industrial equipment in chemical plants or the like.
