    • The present invention is an earth discharging device comprising: an earth discharging pipe which is disposed in a longitudinal direction in order to discharge downward earth and sand that have been excavated by an upward-facing shield machine which advances upward an elastic film-type valve which is provided in this earth discharging pipe, and which expands and contracts diametrically by means of fluid pressure to open and close the interior of the earth discharging pipe and a gate mechanism which is provided further toward the outlet side of the earth discharging pipe tha n the elastic film-type valve, and which adjusts the sectional area of the spa ce through which earth and sand pass inside the earth discharging pipe through which earth and sand pass. By using the gate mechanism to narrow the sectional area of the space inside the earth discharging pipe at the outlet side of the elastic film-type valve, the earth and sand at the outlet side of the elastic film-type valve become slightly blocked, thereby raising the earth pressure of the earth and sand such that the earth pressure at the outlet side of the elastic film-type valve can be made substantially equal t o the earth pressure at the inlet side. Thus, a substantially uniform earth pressure acts upon the entire elastic film-type valve, wherebythe elastic film-type valve expands substantially uniformly so as to narrow the entire interior of the earth discharging pipe substantially uniformly. As a result, blockages and eruptions of the earth and sand can be avoided, and earth pressure control at the work face can be performed reliably regardless of depth or soil type.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a longitudinal-lateral shield machine and a pipe jacking method, by which the bottom section of a longitudinal tunnel can be excavated in depth deeper than the position of the starting of a lateral tunnel by a simple longitudinal shield machine. SOLUTION: The longitudinal-lateral shield machine is composed of the longitudinal shield machine constructing the longitudinal tunnel and a lateral shield machine constructing the lateral tunnel crossing with the longitudinal tunnel. A starting window having a diameter approximately the same as the outside diameter of the lateral shield machine is bored to the side face of the longitudinal shield machine. The starting window is installed at a position higher by a fixed distance from an excavating surface at the front end of the longitudinal shield machine. The lateral shield machine is housed in the longitudinal shield machine. The longitudinal tunnel is constructed towards the vertical direction by the longitudinal shield machine, a de-energizing chamber absorbing the energy of water falling on the longitudinal tunnel is built on the bottom section of the longitudinal tunnel, and the lateral shield machine is started towards the horizontal direction from the starting window at a position higher than the de-energizing chamber and the lateral tunnel is built.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an earth removal device of an upward shield machine capable of controlling earth pressure at a face by evenly inflating an elastic film type valve within an earth removal pipe. SOLUTION: The earth removal device includes the earth removal pipe 19 positioned vertically for discharging downwards the sediment dug by the upward shield machine 1 which digs upwards; the elastic film type valve 20 provided in the earth removal pipe 19 for opening and closing the inside of the earth removal pipe 19 by being radially inflated and deflated by fluid pressure; and a gate mechanism 21 provided in the portion of the earth removal pipe 19 closer to an exit than to the elastic film type valve 20 for regulating a cross-sectional area within the earth removal pipe 19 through which the sediment passes. The cross-sectional area on the exit side of the elastic film type valve 20 through which the sediment passes is reduced by the gate mechanism 21 to rather clog the inside of the pipe and increase its earth pressure while making the earth pressure on the exit side approximately equal to the earth pressure on the entrance side. Thus, the elastic film type valve 20 is entirely and approximately uniformly acted upon by the earth pressure and approximately uniformly inflated, so that the entire valve 20 reduces the cross-sectional area.
