    • A cylinder head gasket (1) is provided with a shim ring (5), which surrounds a combustion chamber hole (2A) of a gasket body (2). The shim ring is spot welded circumferentially along weld lines (5a, 5b) such that pitches of the spot welding are varied to form high weld density regions (H, H, H) and low weld density regions in a circumferential direction of the shim ring. Pitch of spot welding in the high weld density regions is one which would generate strain in the shim ring due to heat at the time of welding in the case where the entire circumference of the shim ring were spot welded at such pitch. Inclusion of the low weld density regions can prevent strain in the shim ring to enhance a welding strength.

SOLUTION: This metallic gasket 1 comprises a first gasket base plate 11 and a second gasket base plate 21. The first gasket base plate 11 is provided with a first stepped stopper 12 having a C-shaped cross section and srrounding a combustion chamber hole 3. The second gasket base plate 21 is provided with a second stepped stopper 22 and a second bore bead 23 at positions respectively superimposed on the first stepped stopper 22 and the first bore bead 13. The width L1, L2, the height H1, H2, and the wall surface angle θ1A, θ1B, θ2A, θ2B, of the stepped stoppers 12, 22, and the width 11, 12, and the height h1, h2 of each bore bead 13, 23 can be changed along a periphery of the combustion chamber hole 3.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To press the base part of each taper part against laminated other gasket board simultaneously with press of the tip part of each taper part against a cylinder head or a cylinder block by the explosion pressure of an engine SOLUTION: A cylinder head gasket 1 is provided with a first and second gasket boards 2 and 3 arranged on the outer side, and each gasket board is provided with taper parts 2a and 3a protruding in a direction in which the taper parts are separated away from each other and having the protrusion side narrowed; and a seal ring 6 arranged inside the two taper parts and making contact with the inner peripheral surface of each taper part. Bent parts 2c and 3c protruding to the seal ring side are formed on the respective taper parts. When the bent part is pressed to the outer peripheral side through the seal ring 6 by an explosion pressure, the tip part of the taper part is pressed against a cylinder head 7 or a cylinder block 8, and the base parts of the taper parts are pressed against each other. This constitution improves sealability of respective parts by the press force.
