    • A color image processing device is disclosed which has an increased degree of freedom in black-coloring processing and permits color images which have good color reproducibility and are less susceptible to position displacement in black-colored portions to be output. The device includes a minimum detector circuit, a first lookup table for determining the amount of black material (K), a second lookup table for determining the amount of black material (k1) in color materials which has one of 256 values from 0 to 255, a third lookup table for determining the amount by which the underlying color is removed (k2) which has one of 256 values from 0 to 255, and three subtracters and three dividers for processing the outputs of the lookup tables to calculate C′, M′ and Y′ indicating the amounts of color materials used in the printer. The amount of black material and the amount of black material mixed with each of C, M and Y are controlled according to the relations: K=&agr;×min(C, M, Y) C′=(C−k1)/(255−k2) M′=(M−k1)/(255−k2)and Y′=(Y−k1)/(255−k2) where &agr; is a black rate of up to 100%.

    • An image processing apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention has a first compressing section which compresses each block of an image into first compressed data, a first code converting section which converts the first compressed data into second compressed data, a second code converting section which converts the second compressed data into third compressed data, and a decoding section which decodes the third compressed data. In this case, each block of the second compressed data has a code length equal to or different from that of each block of the first compressed data. Each block of the third compressed data has a code length equal to that of each block of the first compressed data.

    • There is disclosed an image processing apparatus for generating an address based on a difference (MAX−MIN) between a maximum value MAX and a minimum value MIN among signals CMY indicating three primary colors of a color image for each pixel, and generating a black ink signal based on data read from a lookup table in which the data is read from the generated address, so that a black ink strength is independently set with respect to density and chroma of the image. Moreover, the lookup table with the black ink signal and an undercolor signal stored therein has a storage capacity of a number obtained by totaling a number at which the difference (MAX−MIN) between the maximum value MAX and the minimum value MIN is an integral multiple of a predetermined value and a number at which the difference is other than the integral multiple and the maximum value MAX is equal to a maximum value of a defined region. Thereby, all combinations of the maximum value MAX and minimum value MIN are linearly interpolated without disposing any storage region.
