    • An image compression and decompression apparatus includes a identification section, a conversion section, a characteristics correction section, an image compression section, and a decompression section. The identification section identifies given color image information and outputs an identification signal. The conversion section converts color image information to block-based color image information having a specified length. The characteristics correction section corrects block-based color image information with respect to characteristics thereof in units of the blocks based on an identification signal output from the identification section. The image compression section compresses a corrected image in units of blocks and stores the compressed image in a storage area. The decompression section decompresses a compressed image in units of blocks.

    • A coding and/or decoding system for an image including bit-sops of different levels, is provided in an image recoding system which recodes bit-map data including small-level bit-map data and multilevel bit-map data in an image memory and which read the bit-map data out of the image memory to recode an image. In this coding and/or decoding system, after small-level bit-map data and multilevel bit-map data are divided into blocks, each of which is composed of a plurality of picture elements, the divided small-level bit-map data and the divided multilevel bit-map data are inputted to small-level bit-map data coding section and multilevel bit-map data coding section, respectively. The small-level bit-map data are transformed into codes representative of the number of black or white and half-tone picture elements in the block, and the multilevel bit-map data are transformed into codes representative of the average value or the total in the block. These data are assigned to different codes of digital data written in the image memory, respectively, so as to provide an image recoding system which can effectively reduce the capacity of a page memory for storing an image information and which can recode an image including small-level and multilevel.

    • In an image editing apparatus, an image input section inputs an original image. A processor section compresses the input image and stores the compressed input image as an image file in a memory section. The processor section decompresses the image file that is stored in the memory section, and executes a layout analysis process and extracts layout information. Based on the layout information obtained by the layout analysis process and a prescribed rule, the processor section executes rearrangement of layout. Image information, which includes the rearranged information and layout information before and after the rearrangement, is stored in the memory section as a file.

    • A color copying machine has a scanning-type proximity linear image sensor unit for optically scanning an input image and producing an image read signal, and a color printer unit for producing a copy image corresponding to the input image at limited levels of printing density. An image type discrimination circuit receives the image read signal, and at least partially discriminates the type of image based on a pattern matching technique, thereby producing a discrimination signal for specifying the image type in a pixel region of a predetermined size of the input image. An adaptive signal processing circuit also receives the image read signal, and performs different image signal correction processing in accordance with the discriminated image type, thus producing a corrected image signal, which is supplied to a multi-value dithering processor. The multi-value dithering processing circuit performs multi-value dither processing of the corrected image signal, and produces a printer drive signal for defining a printing pixel pattern for each pixel of the input image.

    • According to one embodiment, a color correction apparatus includes an input portion, a storing portion and a correction portion. The input portion inputs color image signals which correspond to recording color material amounts. The storing portion stores a standard color reproduction parameter for calculating a standard color reproduction chromaticity and reference chromaticity deviation amounts at a plurality of reference color points in recording color material amount coordinate space. The correction portion estimates chromaticity deviation amounts of the input color image signals on the basis of the reference chromaticity deviation amount, calculates a standard chromaticity which corresponds to the input color image signals on the basis of the standard color reproduction parameter and corrects the input color image signals on the basis of the estimated chromaticity deviation amounts and the standard chromaticity.

The input portion inputs each image signal value corresponding to each color component for each recording head block in order to record a color image by a plurality of recording head blocks. The storing portion records reference color deviation amount data that shows a plurality of reference color deviation amounts corresponding to a plurality of reference color points for each recording head block. The correction portion corrects each image signal value on the basis of the reference color deviation amount data. Furthermore, the correction portion corrects a correction target image signal value corresponding to non-reference color points shifted from the reference color points by the interpolation on the basis of the reference color deviation amount data.
