    • Methods, systems, and apparatus are provided for enabling communication with a computer management device. According to a method one or more vendor specific commands for communicating with a management device are defined according to a first communication standard. The one or more vendor specific commands are then transmitted to the management device over a communication link conforming to a second communication standard. A device conforming to the second communication standard may be emulated on the communication link. If vendor specific commands are received by the management device that are not intended for the emulated device, the commands may be used for communicating with the management device.

    • Methods, systems, and apparatus are disclosed for utilizing a universal serial bus (“USB”) transport as a system interface to transmit and receive IPMI commands and responses. An intelligent platform management interface (“IPMI”) transport library is provided that receives IPMI commands from IPMI client applications executing on a host. The IPMI commands are encapsulated into vendor specific small computer systems interface (“SCSI”) commands and transmitted over the USB transport to a virtual mass storage device provided by a management device. In response to receiving the vendor specific commands, IPMI firmware executing on the management device extracts the IPMI commands and executes them. A response may be returned to the host by encapsulating the IPMI response into a vendor specific SCSI response and transmitting the response to the host.

    • A non-smartphone computing system, such as a laptop or desktop personal computer, can be booted into either or both a smartphone operating system and a desktop operating system. The smartphone operating system may be booted first to allow use of the functionality provided by the smartphone operating system while the desktop operating system is booting. Through an appropriate user action, such as the selection of a pre-defined key, key sequence, or by use of a switch, the computing system can dynamically switch between the smartphone operating system and the desktop operating system. Files and folders can also be synchronized and/or shared between the smartphone operating system and the desktop operating system, thereby providing access to these files from each respective operating system even while the other operating system is not executing.

    • Technologies are provided herein for configuring aspects of the operation of a server computer using a service processor. The service processor includes a processor, a NAND flash memory organized using a file system, and a hardware data communications interface coupled to the host computer. The file system is utilized to store a monolithic image file containing software components for configuring the operation of the host computer and the service processor. A firmware is also provided that executes on the processor to expose the NAND flash memory to the host processor as a storage device on the hardware interface, to receive storage requests from the host computer, and to generate offsets into the monolithic image file for performing the storage requests. The image file may be utilized to store an operating system, hardware drivers, and a host configuration tool executable by the host computer.

    • A method, system, and apparatus are provided for interpreting time data received from a server computer management device. According to the method, the local time at a remote computer may be received and converted to GMT. Once the local time has been converted to GMT, a command may be issued to the remote management device instructing the device to set its real time clock to GMT. The remote management device then maintains its time with reference to GMT. When data is received from the server management device, a determination is made as to whether the received data includes time data. If time data is identified, the time data is converted from GMT to a local time where the remote computer is located. The time data is then replaced with the converted time data in the received data. The received data, including the converted time, may then be displayed at the remote computer.
