    • A mobile scaffold (10) having bi-axially rotatable casters (22–28) and including brake assemblies (30 and 32) associated with the casters (22–28) is disclosed. The inventive brake assemblies (30,32) enable an elevated worker to selectively control the mobility of the scaffold (10) and each broadly includes shiftable brake stop subassemblies (74 and 76), a brake housing (72) adjustably connected to a respective scaffold frame (12,14) and shiftably connected to the brake stop subassemblies (74,76), and an actuator (78) adjustably connected to the housing (72) and configured to shift the brake stop subassemblies (74,76) into and out of braking positions. When in the braking position, the brake stop subassemblies (74,76) prevent the respective casters (22–28) from rotating about both axes. The actuator includes cables (180,182) for interconnecting brake stop subassembly and the handle in one embodiment and a plunger (308,406) in other embodiments. Preferred alternative embodiments are disclosed that include pivotal linkage subassemblies (328,430) for intercommunicating the plunger and the brake stops.

    • Scaffolding (10) having safety features for coupling scaffolding structural members so as to prevent equipment damage and worker injury from inadvertent disassembly, while permitting quick assembly and disassembly when desired. The scaffolding (10) incorporating the safety features broadly comprises legs (12); beams (14); a platform (16); coupling braces (18); platform pins (20); and platform clips (22). The first safety feature is a rounded, spring-biased, rotation-limited G-pin for adjustably coupling the beams (14) with the legs (12). The G-pin's rounded shape and a perpendicularly projecting stop (51) minimize risks of inadvertent removal. The second feature is a lockable pin (44) operable to independently couple structural members (12,14) in the event the G-pin is inadvertently removed. The third and fourth features are platform pins (20) and spring-biased platform clips (22) operable to prevent, respectively, undesirable horizontal and vertical movement of the platform (16).

Each ledger is configured to facilitate initial assembly of the frames (12,14) and to prevent undesired shifting of a walkboard supported thereon. For example, the ledger (38) is defined by a U-shaped wall (60) that presents an arcuate walkboard bearing support surface (62) having open, recessed slots (64,66,68,70,72) defined therein. Each slot is configured and dimensioned to receive a portion of the supported walkboard and prevent shifting of the walkboard along the ledger axis.

    • A safety base is provided for a scaffold. The scaffold has casters so that it can be moved periodically at the job site. The safety base has two components, each consisting of an elongate bar with adjustable safety legs near the ends, along with detachable locks for readily attaching the component to frame members of the scaffolding. Feet of the legs are positioned near the supporting surface so that if the casters encounter a depression as the scaffold is being moved, the feet will engage the surface and the scaffold will not tilt excessively.

    • A scaffolding platform is provided which is stronger and more resistant to damage. The platform includes two longitudinally-extending parallel rails and transverse, parallel cross rails affixed at least to end portions of the longitudinal rails. Mounting hooks for mounting the platforms on scaffold frames are affixed to end portions of the longitudinal rails by fasteners which are located on both sides of one of the transverse rails for each hook, there preferably being four fasteners for each hook. One end of each of the transverse rails has a notch to straddle the body of one of the mounting hooks between its two pair of fasteners.
