摘要： A refractory roll cover is described that reduces the amount of noxious dust during the production of glass sheet. The roll cover comprises a plurality of segments, including low dusting millboard segments mechanically supported by highly rigidized compressed fiber segments. The millboard segments are adapted to contact the glass sheet. The millboard is chosen so that any dust produced has little affinity for the glass sheet or is not easily fluidized by convective currents. The highly rigidized compressed fiber has a fused surface that releases little dust. The resultant roll cover substantially eliminates dusting while providing a mechanically superior roll cover.

摘要： A tool insert comprising a composite diamond abrasive compact and a method of its production are provided. The composite abrasive compact is characterized by an intermediate layer between the diamond compact and the cemented carbide support. The intermediate layer consists essentially of discrete cubic boron nitride particles constituting 60 to 40 percent by volume of the intermediate layer, carbide particles, preferably tungsten carbide particles and diamond solvent, preferably cobalt. The carbide particles and diamond solvent together constitute 40 to 60 percent by volume of the intermediate layer and the diamond solvent constitutes 15 to 25 percent by volume of the carbide/solvent combination.

摘要： The invention includes an end cap that can be securely mounted to the end of a ceramic spool. The end cap comprises a locking plate adapted to fit into a groove in the ceramic spool. A plurality of angularly offset holes in the locking plate align with similar holes in the end cap. Screws or pins are placed in the holes and welded in place to prevent backing out or loosening. In use, the locking plate is secured by the pins, the groove and the inside surface of the end cap, the combination of which inhibits misalignment. Thermal cycling does not loosen the end cap, cause eccentric rotation or crack the ceramic spool.

摘要： A composite abrasive compact is produced by placing strips of suitable abrasive material on a cemented carbide substrate. The strips each comprise abrasive particles, optionally with a particulate second phase, in an organic binder. The organic binder is first removed by volatilization. Then, the cemented carbide substrate with the strips thereon is subjected to compact-producing conditions of elevated temperature and pressure.
