    • Disclosed is a broadband light source for measurement using a seed-beam which can reduce the strength difference between the output lights per wavelength by heightening the strength of the output light corresponding to the L-band of the light source, and thus reduce the measurement error per wavelength. The broadband light source includes a seed-beam light source for outputting a seed-beam of a predetermined band of wavelength, a first optical coupler for combining the seed-beam and a pumping light and making a combined light incident to a front of a rare earth ion-doped optical fiber, a first pumping light source for providing the pumping light to the first optical coupler, a second optical coupler for making the input pumping light incident to a rear of the rare earth ion-doped optical fiber, a second pumping light source for providing the pumping light to the second optical coupler, and an output terminal for radiating the light outputted through the rear of the rare earth ion-doped optical fiber.

    • A long-band (L-band) light source capable of testing the characteristics of optical elements using a feedback loop in a fiber amplifier of an optical communication system. In the fiber amplifier including (a) a rare earth doped fiber as an amplification medium, (b) forward and backward pump laser diodes, positioned on front and rear ends of the rare earth doped fiber, for generating and providing pumping lights to the rare earth doped fiber, (c) first wavelength selective couplers for providing the pumping lights from the forward and backward pump laser diodes to the rare earth doped fiber, and (d) optical isolators, inserted between front and rear ends of the first wavelength selective couplers, respectively, for intercepting backward lights reflected from input and output terminals of the fiber amplifier, the L-band light source comprises a feedback loop for making a seed beam incident to the rare earth doped fiber or making an amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) incident again to the rare earth doped fiber to reuse the seed beam or the ASE as the L-band light source for testing the optical elements, second wavelength selective couplers, provided between the optical isolators and the first wavelength selective couplers, respectively, for making the seed beam incident to the feedback loop or extracting and providing the ASE to the feedback loop, and a forward optical isolator, connected to the feedback loop, for intercepting a backward propagation of the seed beam or the ASE. The L-band light source can accurately test the characteristics of various kinds of optical elements used for optical communications.

    • A liquid crystal display includes a first substrate and a second substrate which face each other and each include a display area and a peripheral area, a liquid crystal layer in the display areas and between the first substrate and the second substrate, and a conductive sealant combining the first substrate and the second substrate. The first substrate includes a common electrode in the display and peripheral areas of the first substrate. The second substrate includes a first and signal lines in the peripheral area of the second substrate, a first insulating layer on the first signal line and the second signal line, and a conductor on the first insulating layer in the peripheral area and connected to the first signal line through a contact hole. The common electrode includes a cutout corresponding to the conductor, and the cutout is at a corner of the display areas.
