摘要： A liquid crystal display (LCDS) which has higher contrast characters than previously available LCDs, particularly LCDs used in electronic price labels. The LCD includes a number of characters containing segments including four vertical segments and three horizontal segments arranged in a figure-8 shape. The four vertical segments have a width determined by a segment width to character width ratio of about 0.208-0.283 and the three horizontal segments have a width determined by a segment height to character height ratio of about 0.100-0.150. The LCD also includes two diagonal segments defined by two parallel lines to enhance visibility of characters such as the letter “N”.

The method comprises the the steps of (i) comparing the display color space data to reference data generally adapted to the size and spatial characteristics of the display, (ii) developing a recommended color value tolerance for the color space data in response to the comparison, and (iii) developing, independent of the recommended color value tolerance, a recommended luminance value tolerance in response to the color space data.
