    • An ultrasonic blood flow sensor includes a plurality of adjacent triangular shaped transducer elements which transmit ultrasound waves into a blood vessel and receive reflected ultrasound waves from the blood flow in the vessel. Preferably the transducer elements are paired in pairs of transmit and receive elements. The elements are fixed in a matrix which may be attached in acoustic coupling contact with the skin The matrix retains adjacent transducer elements slightly spaced apart so that the matrix of transducer elements may bend and conform to the shape of the skin surface. The spacing between the triangular elements is neither parallel nor orthogonal to the length dimension of the matrix so that a blood vessel will not be aligned with a space between transducer elements when the matrix is affixed across the location of a blood vessel. In addition the geometry of the elements creates a beam pattern that provide more overlap between transmit and receive beam profiles, thereby increasing the area of sensor coverage.

    • A system, apparatus, and method are provided for control of a catheter (including an ablation catheter), bronchoscope/endoscope and beveled needle. Control of a bronchoscope (100) is calculated for a 3D environment based on capabilities of the bronchoscope and the patient morphology. This can be used to plan and simulate an optimal motion, train or compare surgical techniques or automate the procedure. A particular bronchoscope may be recommended based on its form and flexibility as well as based on the personal morphology of the patient rather than relying on statistical norms. For all tools, a 6 dimensional configuration space problem is solved using 3 storage dimensions and a ‘6D neighborhood’ for path planning. The present invention finds the kinematically feasible path from a ‘start’ to a goal, while avoiding obstacles and dangerous regions.

    • A camera-based system includes a number of sites, each having a camera associated therewith. A processing system processes a video signal received from a camera at a given one of the sites, and provides a controlled switching between a representative presence mode and at least one other mode for presentation, at one or more of the sites remote from the given site, of corresponding output video associated with the given site. The processing system utilizes information derived from the video signal generated by the camera to control the switching between the representative presence mode and the other mode, which may be, e.g., a live video mode. For example, the processing system may process the video to identify a user of the system, retrieve a corresponding user profile, and control the switching between the modes in accordance with information in the retrieved user profile.
