    • A system for correctively controlling the turning movement of a vehicle, including a device for correcting the turning movement of the vehicle, a sensor for detecting the steering angle of a steering wheel of the vehicle, a steering angle hysteresis storage device for storing the hysteresis of the steering angle, and a reference value arithmetic device for determining a reference value of a physical quantity generated during a turning movement of the vehicle, on the basis of the hysteresis of the steering angle. The system also includes a detector for detecting an actual value of the physical quantity during the turning movement, a calculator for determining a deviation between the reference value and actual value of the physical quantity and a polarity of the deviation, and a control-quantity determining device for determining a control-quantity for the turning movement correcting device on the basis of the deviation obtained in the calculator. A device is included for determining a control-direction of correction of the turning movement on the basis of the polarity of the deviation. This system permits the turning movement of the vehicle to be automatically corrected.

    • In a "steer-by-wire" vehicle steering control system which steers steerable wheels with a powered actuator according to an input signal obtained from a sensor associated with a steering wheel, to the end of achieving an optimum vehicle response to a steering input, a compensatory transfer function is introduced between the steering wheel and the powered steering actuator. The compensatory transfer function can be obtained by suitable manipulation of the transfer functions of the hardware involved and a desired overall transfer function. The frequency domain compensatory transfer function is transformed into a time-domain input-output relationship, and the steering mechanism is actuated accordingly as a real time operation. By suitable selection of the desired overall transfer function, it is possible to achieve a vehicle response both stable and favorable.

    • In a front and rear wheel steering device contive for vehicle in which the steering angle ratio of the rear wheels relative to the front wheels is variable according to the vehicle speed, provision of a manual selection means for fixing the steering angle ratio to certain fixed values which may be either positive or negative can greatly improve the maneuverability of the vehicle in both high speed and low speed ranges. However, inadvertent manual selection of the steering angle ratio is not desirable since it may cause a sudden change in the steering angle of the rear wheels. Therefore, this invention provides means for preventing the manual selection of the steering angle ratio when it is not proper. This means may be an active prohibition control of manual steering angle ratio selection means, an alarm to warn the driver or a vehicle speed control which limits the vehicle speed. The situations in which the manual selection of the steering angle ratio is not proper may be determined from such factors as vehicle acceleration, transmission shift position, steering rate and so on.
