    • Semiconductor laser assembly 1 is provided with semiconductor laser device 6 and heat dissipation member 24. Semiconductor laser device 6 includes semiconductor laser element 15, lead-frame 11, lower and upper enclosures 18 and 19 and plate-like spring 21 connected to lead-frame 11. Semiconductor laser element 15 is mounted on lead-frame 11 through sub-mounting member 16. Lower and upper enclosures 18 and 19 have an opening through which laser beams from semiconductor laser element 15 are emitted. Plate-like spring 21 is connected to lead-frame 11 and has wing and holding portions 22 and 23. Holding portion 23 is a C-character in cross section to put lower and upper enclosures 18 and 19 together. Heat dissipation member 24 has inside walls to define perforation 25, so that wing portions 22 of plate-like spring 21 pushes semiconductor laser device 6 against the inside walls of heat dissipation member 24 when the semiconductor laser device 6 is set in perforation 25.

    • A transfer unit includes: an intermediate transfer belt that (i) holds a toner image that has been transferred, at a primary transfer part, from a photoreceptor drum and (ii) rotates to move a surface holding the toner image; and a secondary transfer belt that comes into contact, at a secondary transfer part, with the intermediate transfer belt. The transfer unit (i) transfers the toner image from the intermediate transfer belt to a sheet conveyed to the secondary transfer part and (ii) includes an intermediate transfer belt cleaning unit that removes and collects toner from the toner image holding surface of the intermediate transfer belt. The transfer unit also includes secondary transfer power source for sequentially applying, to the secondary transfer belt, (i) a first voltage for generating an electric field that transfers normally-charged toner from the secondary transfer belt to the intermediate transfer belt and (ii) a second voltage for generating an electric field that transfers oppositely-charged toner from the secondary transfer belt to the intermediate transfer belt. Therefore, the toner from the secondary transfer belt can be suitably transferred to an intermediate transfer belt, and the secondary transfer belt can be desirably cleaned.

    • Provided is a strobe unit compatible with both a camera that has a synchro switch that does not cause chattering and that can achieve a large number of times of flash photography per unit time and a camera that has a synchro switch whose chattering time is long or short. The strobe unit comprises: a chattering preventing unit that is connected to a flashlight emission initiating unit; a checking unit that checks the type of synchro switch included in an image sensing apparatus, which is connected to the strobe unit via a communication terminal, through transfer of information with the image sensing apparatus; and a control unit that controls the chattering preventing unit according to the result of checking performed by the checking unit.
