    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect pinching of foreign matter without a dead zone even at the occurrence of disconnection to an electrode. SOLUTION: This safety device has the electrode whose characteristics are changed by the contact of foreign matter; a first sensor circuit part connected to one end of the electrode to supply predetermined voltage and to detect voltage generated at one end; a second sensor circuit part connected to the other end of the electrode to supply predetermined voltage and to detect voltage generated at the other end; and a control part performing control for supplying predetermined voltage to the electrode from the first sensor circuit part and determining the contact of foreign matter when the voltage detected by the first sensor circuit part is within a foreign matter contact predetermined value range while determining electrode disconnection when voltage detected via the second sensor circuit part is within a disconnection predetermined value range, and performing control for supplying predetermined voltage to the electrode from the second sensor circuit part and determining the contact of foreign matter when voltage detected by the second sensor circuit part is within the foreign matter contact predetermined value range while determining electrode disconnection when voltage detected via the first sensor circuit part is within the disconnection predetermined value range.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device which can positively detect foreign matter inclusive of a contact position and a contact state of the same. SOLUTION: The safety device has an electrode, a first sensor circuit section, a second sensor circuit section, and a control section. The electrode changes its characteristics upon contact with foreign matter. The first sensor circuit section supplies a signal of a predetermined voltage to one end of the electrode, and detects a voltage value of a signal generated at the one end. The second sensor circuit section supplies a signal of a predetermined voltage to the other end of the electrode, and detects a voltage value of a signal generated at the other end. When the signal of the predetermined voltage is supplied to the electrode from the first sensor circuit section, if the voltage value detected by the first sensor circuit section falls in a predetermined range, the control section determines that contact with foreign matter has occurred. Further, when the signal of the predetermined voltage is supplied to the electrode from the second sensor circuit section, if the voltage value detected by the second sensor circuit section falls in a predetermined range, the control section determines that contact with foreign matter has occurred. The control section compares the voltage value detected by the first sensor circuit section with the voltage value detected by the second sensor circuit section, and detects a contact position.
