    • A liquid crystal display device. The liquid crystal display device has a peripheral circuit including a liquid crystal display having drive ICs COG-packaged on a transparent substrate, and a foldable multi-layered flexible substrate having two or more conductor layers, so that the compact packaging can be realized to reduce EMI noise and the number of parts. The liquid crystal display device may also include a display controller having two or more display control integrated circuit elements packaged therein, and drive ICs mounted by a chip-on-glass packaging on two sides of a liquid crystal display panel, usually, on the longer sides, so that the display controller excellent in the temperature resistance and advantageous in compact and a video signal line driving circuit board are uniformly arranged at the upper and lower sides of a screen. As a result, the vertical positioning of the screen can be made proper to take an advantage in the compact packaging. Further, the liquid crystal display device may have a peripheral circuit board positioned in an outer periphery of a seal port recessed to avoid the projection of the seal port and in which a fluorescent tube has its two lamp cables arranged around four sides of a liquid crystal display element, so that the substrate at the seal port side and the lamp cable of a side light type back light can be compactly packaged.

    • A liquid crystal display device is provided which reduces the resistance of input wires disposed between a flexible board and driving ICs mounted in a flip-chip style, and enhances resistance against electrocorrosion of input terminals thereof. The liquid crystal display device includes two transparent insulating substrates (SUB1, SUB2) confronting each other through a liquid crystal layer, plural liquid crystal driving circuits (ICs) mounted in a flip-chip style on a surface of one of the substrates located at the side of the liquid crystal layer, a flexible board (FPC) for inputting a signal to each of the liquid crystal driving circuits, and plural input wires (Td) provided on the surface of the one substrate at the side of the liquid crystal layer to connect output terminals of the flexible board to input terminals of the liquid crystal driving circuits. Each input wire includes a first metal layer (g1) in the vicinity of the surface of the substrate, a transparent conductive layer (d1) laminated on the first metal layer, connected to the input terminals of the flexible board, with open portions in the neighborhood of the input terminals of the liquid crystal driving circuits and in the neighborhood of the output terminals of the flexible board, a second metal layer (d2) laminated on the transparent conductive film and connected to the first metal layer at the open portions, and a protection film (PSV1) covering at least the second metal layer.

    • A liquid crystal display capable of accommodating a common gate line in a proper position during the manufacture thereof has two transparent substrates opposed across a liquid crystal; a set of parallel gate lines extending in an x-direction on the surface of one of the transparent substrates, which faces the liquid crystal; a set of parallel drain lines extending in the y-direction on the surface and being insulated from the gate lines; and a gate scanning driver circuit connected with the individual gate lines outside of the display region in which the gate line set and the drain line set intersect. The common gate line is formed over a peripheral surface portion of the one transparent substrate, which surface portion is to be cut off at a subsequent manufacturing step, and is mounted on a region opposite to the gate scanning driver circuit on the other side of the display region therefrom for connecting the individual gate lines of the gate line set in common.
