摘要： In an apparatus for executing an algorithm for realizing an orthogonal transform operation such as the 8 points fast cosine transform, by operating on successive sets of data values of a digital signal such as a digital video signal in such applications as high efficiency coding of a digital video signal, a plurality of multiplication operations that are executed during processing of each set of data values are executed sequentially by time division multiplex operation of a single multiplier (32) which is capable of executing a multiplication operation within one sample period of the digital signal, with input and output data values being transferred by selector units (11, 33, 41) between the multiplier and other sections of the apparatus at appropriate times during processing of each set of the input digital signal values. The scale of hardware required for the apparatus is thereby reduced by comparison with an apparatus which employs a plurality of separate multipliers.

Further, in parallel to the rearrangement of the transformation coefficients for the vertical orthogonal transformation to be in the ascending order from a lower frequency component to a higher frequency component, the amplitude values of the AC components in the block in question are detected to thereby make control on the basis of the amplitude values so that the smaller the amplitude value of the block the smaller the quantizing step width.

摘要： The video signal input is converted to high-speed reproduction data by a high-speed reproduction data encoder 1. The video signal input is converted to high-speed reproduction data by a formatter 2, which formats the high-speed reproduction data so that the same data is recorded to n tracks. After the recorded data is input to an error correction encoder 3, it is decoded by a decoder 4 and recorded by a recording head 5 to the magnetic tape 6. During reproduction, the recorded data is reproduced by reproduction head 7 from the magnetic tape 6, and decoded by decoder 8. The decoded data is then error corrected by an error correction decoder 9, and then input to a deformatter 10. The deformatter 10 separates the normal reproduction data from the high-speed reproduction data, and separately outputs both data types. During normal reproduction, the normal reproduction data is output by a switch 13; the high-speed reproduction data is decoded to video data by a high-speed reproduction data decoder during high speed reproduction, and output.

摘要： The differential coding apparatus comprises a delay unit for storing an adjacent value, a transmission value conversion unit for assigning a transmission value to a value of difference between the value to be coded and the adjacent value in the ascending order of the absolute value of the difference value, and a variable-length coding device for assigning a code in the order that the code is increasing in code length as the transmission value increases in number. In the range in which positive and negative difference values exist, positive and negative numbers are alternately given to difference values in the order in which the difference value is increasing in distance from a center difference value of 0. In the range in which either positive or negative difference value exists, serial numbers are successively given to difference values in the order in which the difference value is increasing in distance from the difference value of 0. Then codes are assigned in the order of their increasing in code length to the difference values in the order of the given numbers of transmission values.
