The coextrusion die includes a die outlet through which a layered melt stream of the thermoplastic materials is extruded as a multilayer film or sheet, a first die section for producing a core layer, the first die section having a flat manifold, the flat manifold having a feed entrance and a pressure manifold in communication with the slotted die outlet, a second die section for producing a first skin layer, the second die section having a cross flow manifold, the cross flow manifold having a flow path wherein a portion of a melt stream of the thermoplastic material traverses the second die section's length more than once, the cross flow manifold having a feed entrance and a pressure manifold in communication with the slotted die outlet, and a third die section for producing a second skin layer, the third die section having a cross flow manifold, the cross flow manifold having a flow path wherein a portion of a melt stream of the thermoplastic material traverses the third die section's length more than once, the cross flow manifold having a feed entrance and a pressure manifold in communication with the slotted die outlet. A process for making a multilayer extrudate of thermoplastic materials is also provided.

摘要： A microporous polyethylene membrane made of a polyethylene resin comprising 15% or less by mass of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene having a mass-average molecular weight of 1×106 or more, which is constituted by a dense-structure layer having an average pore diameter of 0.01 to 0.05 μm, and a coarse-structure layer formed on at least one surface and having an average pore diameter 1.2-fold to 5.0-fold of that of the dense-structure layer, has a high electrolytic solution absorption speed with thickness and air permeability little changing when compressed. Such a microporous polyethylene membrane is produced by extruding a melt blend of the above polyethylene resin and a membrane-forming solvent through a die, cooling the resultant extrudate with a temperature distribution in a thickness direction to provide a gel-like sheet, stretching the gel-like sheet at a temperature from the crystal dispersion temperature of the polyethylene resin +10° C. to the crystal dispersion temperature +30° C., removing the membrane-forming solvent, and stretching the membrane again to 1.05-fold to 1.45-fold.

摘要： The invention relates to a particular multi-layer microporous membrane having a good balance of important properties, including excellent electrochemical stability and low heat shrinkage, while maintaining high permeability and heat resistance, with good mechanical strength, compression resistance and electrolytic solution absorption. Of particular importance when used as a battery separator, the present multi-layer microporous membrane exhibits excellent heat shrinkage, melt down temperature and thermal mechanical properties, i.e. low maximum shrinkage in the molten state. The multi-layer microporous membrane of the present invention is manufactured by layering, such as for example by coextrusion, one or more microporous membrane first layers and one or more microporous membrane second layers, such as on one or both sides of a first layer. The invention further relates to battery separators comprising the multi-layer microporous membrane and batteries utilizing the battery separators.
