摘要： In a liquid crystal display device, a first substrate adjacent to a liquid crystal display panel is subjected to rubbing in a first direction that is the same as a polarization axis direction of light emitted from the liquid crystal display panel, and a second substrate that interposes a liquid crystal layer with the first substrate is subjected to rubbing in a second direction at a right angle with the first direction. The second direction is made the same as the polarization axis direction of polarized sunglasses to allow visual recognition of the image using the polarized sunglasses. Electrode patterns formed by alternately providing narrow and wide electrodes are arranged on the upper and lower substrates in a direction at a right angle with each other so that the rubbing directions on the upper and lower substrates form a right angle to ensure stable 3D display.

摘要： An object of the present invention is to provide a simply configured liquid crystal display device capable of providing a high front luminance when light obliquely enters a micro lens array. The liquid crystal display device comprises: a pair of polarizing plates which sandwich a pair of substrates; a liquid crystal layer sandwiched by the pair of substrates; transmission openings formed in a pixel to limit the quantity of light which penetrates the liquid crystal layer; condensing elements formed on the side of one of the substrates, opposite to the side on which the liquid crystal layer is disposed, to condense light to the transmission openings; and a planar light-emitting element which emits light to be applied to the condensing elements; wherein the light to be emitted from the planar light-emitting element forms a certain angle with respect to its perpendicular when emitted; and wherein the position of the transmission opening is relatively shifted with respect to that of the condensing element so as to increase the quantity of light which penetrates the transmission opening, in association with the light-emitting direction of the planar light-emitting element.

摘要： An image display apparatus configured by a display panel having an image memory element in a pixel, which achieves low power consumption. A nonvolatile image memory element 1, which can change the resistance value by phase change, is connected to a pixel electrode 25 of a liquid crystal element 5. The output of a thin-film transistor 17 driven by scanning and signal electrode lines 7, 9 is connected to the pixel electrode 25. When the scanning electrode line 7 is selected to have a high level voltage, the thin-film transistor 17 is turned on and a current signal flowing through the signal electrode 9 is sent through the image memory element 1 to a reference electrode line 15. Depending on the current value or pulse width passing through the image memory element 1, the resistance of the image memory element 1 is changed and is stored as a resistance value. A liquid crystal drive voltage to be applied to the liquid crystal element 5 is varied depending on the resistance of the image memory element 1 and an image is displayed on the liquid crystal element 5.
