    • The reciprocating saw has a main body, a support member, a guide shoe, a locking member and an engaging member. The support member can be slid relative to the main body. The guide shoe is attached to an anterior end of the support member. The locking member can be switched between a state allowing the support member to be slid relative to the main body and a state not allowing the sliding. The engaging member is energized towards the support member. The engaging member and the support member engage or release their engagement, while the support member is being slid relative to the main body across a location allowing locking and a location not allowing locking.

    • In order to provide an effective technique in simplifying the vibration-proof structure of a handle equipped in a rotary power tool, a representative rotary power tool 101 is provided with a tool body 103, a rotary-disk shaped tool bit 115, a handle 109, a pivot region 121 and an elastic element 129. The handle 109 coupled to the tool body 103 is disposed in a predetermined initial position in which the handle 109 longitudinally extends parallel to the longitudinal direction of the tool body 103. The handle 109 can rotate with respect to the tool body 103 around the pivot region 121 in any direction crossing the longitudinal direction of the tool body 103. The elastic element 129 is disposed between the tool body 103 and the handle 109 to apply a biasing force to the handle 109 such that the elastic element 129 biases the handle 109 to return to the initial position.

    • A variable speed power tool may include a speed adjusting device and/or a maximum speed adjusting device for adjusting the operating speed, and a fixed operating speed switch. An operator adjustable speed adjusting device having a position maintaining mechanism also may be utilized. When manipulated by the operator, the fixed operating speed switch gives priority to the adjusted position of the speed adjusting device and adjusts the operating speed to a preset operating speed. In the alternative, a switching device and an internal integrated circuit may be utilized to adjust the operating speed to a target speed using feedback control. The switching device preferably selects a voltage corresponding to the target speed from either a voltage representative of the position of the speed adjusting device or a predetermined voltage representative of the present operating speed.
