    • A method for manufacturing a color filter having a high resolution and excellent controllability, in few steps without using a photolithographic process is disclosed. The method includes: preparing a substrate produced by sequentially forming a transparent electroconductive film and a semiconductor film on a transparent substrate; preparing a water-based liquid in a vessel, the water based liquid containing a coloring material and an electrodeposition material which is chemically dissolved or precipitated/sedimented by changes in the pH; securing the substrate having the transparent electroconductive film, to which means for supplying a current or an electric field according to an image pattern is connected, such that the semiconductor thin film is dipped in the water-based liquid; disposing a counter electrode in the vessel and disposing a mask pattern on the transparent substrate and applying light to selectively precipitate an electrodeposition film, which includes electrodeposition materials, on a portion at which electromotive force was generated with light irradiation, thereby forming a monochromatic color filter. A plurality of coloring materials, which each have a different hue, can be used and the steps for forming a monochromatic color filter can be repeated for each material having a different hue to form a polychromatic color filter.

The black matrix of the metallic plating film may be formed before the formation of the colored electrodeposition film.

    • An image forming method wherein an aqueous dispersion is prepared in a vessel of an apparatus. The aqueous dispersion contains an electrodeposition material including a fine particle coloring material, and a polymer which is chemically dissolved, or is deposited and precipitated, by a change in pH. The vessel can hold a liquid, and has therein an image supporting member. The image supporting member has at least an electrode, which can supply current or an electric field in accordance with an image pattern, and a surface which can support an image; and a counter electrode which forms a pair of electrodes together with the electrode. The electrodeposition material is deposited and precipitated to form an image by supplying current or an electric field in accordance with an image pattern to the image supporting member and the counter electrode and by changing the pH value of the aqueous dispersion in the vicinity of the image supporting surface of the image supporting member. The polymer in the electrodeposition material has both hydrophobic groups and hydrophilic groups in the molecule, the proportion of the number of the hydrophobic groups to the total number of hydrophilic groups and the hydrophobic groups in the polymer is in the range of from 40 to 80%, 50% or more of the hydrophilic groups can reversibly change from hydrophilic groups to hydrophobic groups due to a change in pH value, and the acid value of the polymer is on the range of from 30 to 400.

    • An image forming method wherein an aqueous dispersion is prepared in a vessel of an apparatus. The process for recording an image further comprises, if desired, (D) transferring the electrodeposition film 21 onto an image retaining substrate 40, such as ordinary paper.

    • The image recording process comprises the steps of preparing an aqueous coloring material liquid by dissolving or dispersing fine particles of a coloring material in an aqueous liquid, disposing an image supporting member and a counter electrode opposite thereto in the aqueous coloring material liquid, applying an electric current or an electric field corresponding to an image pattern between the image supporting member and the counter electrode, electrochemically depositing an image forming material containing the fine particles of the coloring material on the surface of the image supporting member thereby forming an image, and transferring the image forming material, in a condition where the image forming material contains 20 to 60% by weight of the aqueous liquid, onto a recording medium so as to record the image on the recording medium. This process, which is highly safe and simple, makes it possible to obtain a high-quality image by improving the transfer performance of the fine particles of the coloring material.
