    • A hand-held pressurized product dispenser that includes a container with a hand-engageable body portion, a valve mechanism at the top of the container that is movable with respect to the container to cause pressurized discharge of the product, and a valve actuation lever that is connected to the valve mechanism and extends along the container body such that a larger displacement of the end of the lever causes a controlled, relatively smaller displacement of the valve mechanism, permitting adjustable “throttled” delivery of the product. Also disclosed are: a product delivery member that is attached to the top of container and has a product holding structure that is positioned with respect to the valve mechanism to receive product and to hold the product in position for application; cam members are oriented to cause the valve actuating lever to move downward as it is moved toward the container body: and a movable stop member that is carried on the container and faces the hand-engageable portion so as to limit travel of the hand-engageable portion toward the container.

    • A fluid delivery system includes an applicator having gradient foam where the gradient foam includes a fluid and the applicator has an applicator surface area open to the environment such that the fluid is passively dispensed onto a surface independent of gravity through the applicator surface area. The gradient foam may be encompassed by a holder. A fluid reservoir in the applicator holder is used to replenish fluid. A cap covers the gradient foam to prevent the foam drying out. The types of surfaces that the fluid delivery system may be applied to can be hard or soft, such as wood or skin and hence, the fluid delivery system may be used for many applications in the home, health/medicine, beauty, feminine, baby, personal, fabric, pet and food areas.

    • A skin composition for use with or without a device such as a razor or a light based device (e.g., a laser) is provided in the present invention. The composition when exposed to light having a red wavelength is capable of substantially transmitting or not substantially absorbing or reflecting the red wavelength of light to protect the skin. Ingredients in the composition may be segmented into functional groups: a drying group, a skin benefits group, a performance group and a carrier group where each group has respective functional agents or ingredients. A container encompassing the composition may be integrated with a razor or light based device for ease of dispensing. The composition is quick-drying. After evaporation, there may be one or more non-volatile components of the composition remaining on the skin providing skin benefits.

    • A method for detecting a tetracycline efflux pump inhibitor in the presence of tetracycline using a reporter gene system where the tetA promoter directs transcription of a reporter gene (lacZ) while the tetA is under the control of the tet repressor encoded by the tetR gene is described. The method uses a cell having a reporter gene system where the tetA promoter directs transcription of a reporter gene (lacZ) and an active efflux system in which relatively modest levels of the efflux protein encoded by the tetA gene are produced in a constitutive manner, i.e., not under the control of the tet repressor encoded by the tetR gene. Test samples which are inhibitors of the TetA efflux protein will allow accumulation of tetracycline inside the cells at levels which will induce expression of the tetA-lacZ transcriptional fusion to give a positive signal. A microorganism is also described which is refractory to induction by DNA damaging agents and comprises (1) an indicator gene fused to a tetA promoter, as a single- or low-copy number gene; (2) a tetR gene expressed at low levels, preferably at a level producing a sensitivity to 10 ng or less of tetracycline, and (3) a constitutive gene encoding a tetracycline efflux pump.

    • A hair removal system includes a hair removal device with a hair removal area such as a razor cartridge, a dry shaving hair removal area, an epilating area, or a laser hair removal area, each having a fluid delivery system with at least one gradient foam having a fluid and a applicator surface area open to the environment such that the fluid is passively dispensed onto a skin surface independent of gravity through said applicator surface area while a user is shaving or epilating. The fluid delivery system may be integrated via pins, glue or other locking mechanism onto the hair removal area (e.g. razor cartridge). A cap covers the gradient foam to prevent the foam from drying out. A fluid reservoir may be integrated in the hair removal system in the hair removal area or in a handle. The fluid reservoir serves to replenish fluid in the foam. The fluid may be any oil, soap, moisturizer or other suitable liquid for shave preparation or for providing post hair management related benefits. The hair removal device may be a razor, a dry shaver, an epilator or a laser (light based system).
