    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for cleaning water efficiently by using a photocatalyst.
      SOLUTION: The apparatus 1 for cleaning water is provided with a cleaning body 8 having a plurality of through-holes which are formed into a honeycomb shape and on the surface of each of which a photocatalytic film is formed. The cleaning body 8 is immersed in the water to be treated and irradiated with the light emitted from an ultraviolet LED chip 10 to decompose the organic matter and inorganic matter dissolved in the water to be treated and clean the water to be treated. Since the light emitted from the ultraviolet LED chip 10 has the directivity almost parallel to the penetrated direction of through-hole formed in the cleaning body 8, the whole photocatalytic film formed on the whole surface of the through-hole including the photocatalytic film formed on the lower side of the through-hole is irradiated with the emitted light to lessen the existing probability of the photocatalyst which is not irradiated with the emitted light and does not contribute to the cleaning of water.
