    • A composite vascular graft incorporates bioactive agents to deliver therapeutic materials and/or inhibit or reduce bacterial growth during and following the introduction of the graft to the implantation site in a vascular system. A composite vascular graft includes a porous tubular graft member. One or more biodegradable, bioactive agent coating layers are disposed over the graft member, the coating layer including at least one bioactive agent. A biodegradable sheath is disposed over the coating layer. The sheath has a rigidity greater than the flexible tubular graft member and is biodegradable to expose the coating layer so as to re-establish the flexibility of the tubular graft member.

    • A medical device with anti-microbial properties to prevent infections. This medical device, such as an in-dwelling catheter, has a portion that is insertable into the body of a patient and accessible from outside the body once the portion is inserted. The portion has an outer wall, a first active lumen within the outer wall, and a false lumen within the outer wall in which the false lumen has a distal portion and a proximal portion. The false lumen contains an anti-microbial agent that provides the outer wall with anti-microbial properties. The distal portion of the false lumen is sealed. The false lumen may be adjacent to the first active lumen. The medical device may also contain a second active lumen, wherein the first active lumen is an inlet lumen and the second active lumen is an outlet lumen. Alternatively, the false lumen may surround the first active lumen.

    • An apparatus and method for management of nosocomial infections associated with indwelling catheters, in which an antimicrobial agent-based infection intervention device, such as an iodine-bearing flexible rod, may be inserted, dwell within the catheter lumen, and be removed through a side arm tube extending from the side of the catheter. The apparatus and method minimize interference with the use of the catheter lumen for other medical procedures, eliminates undesired exposure of the proximal end of the catheter lumen to the atmosphere, and/or prevents back-bleeding of fluids from the proximal end of the catheter lumen during insertion or removal of the antimicrobial agent-based intervention device.
