    • A method for identifying therapeutically effective immunosuppressive agents by screening such agents for those which induce apoptosis in activated T cells is disclosed. T cells were isolated then activated and treating with various test compounds. A caspase substrate is added to detect caspase activation and apoptosis in the cells. Compounds which stimulate caspase activation and apoptosis are also tested against resting T cells to determine those agents which are more effective in activated T cells compared to resting T cells. Compounds with this selectivity are effective in treating immunopathological disorders such as arthritis, graft rejection, graft versus host disease, inflammatory bowel syndrome and the like.

    • What is disclosed is a method for communicating a presence message from a presence server to a monitoring wireless communication device, wherein the presence message indicates a location-oriented status of a monitored wireless communication device. The method includes receiving the presence message from the presence server and determining if the monitoring wireless communication device is in an active mode. If the monitoring wireless communication device is in the active mode, the method includes transferring the presence message for delivery to the monitoring wireless communication device. If the monitoring wireless communication device is not in the active mode, the method includes applying filtering characteristics to the presence message, creating summary data of the presence message, and transferring the summary data of the presence message for delivery to the monitoring wireless communication device once the monitoring wireless communication device enters the active mode.

    • Methods, media and systems are provided for generating a dynamic web portal in a wireless network, and the portal is based on personal usage. An initialized portal contains no web content. Systems include one or more network elements configured to monitor requests for resource components, to generate web portals, and to dynamically update the portals based on the requests for resource components. Data structures embodied on a computer-readable media are included for storing numerical data regarding the requests and for storing a plurality of portals. The dynamic web portal is updated to contain component resources from visited web pages, each having a respective universal resource locator (URL) or portion of code with which it is associated. Requests for resources are monitored and added to a web portal when a specified threshold is surpassed so that an updated web portal can be presented.

    • Methods, systems, and media are provided for interfacing components in a wireless telecommunications network. An interface allows for the efficient transfer of data that facilitates billing and operations functions. This data is transferred from proxy gateways to application servers to servers that provide billing functions and operations, administration, and management (OAM) functions. The interface enables the transmission by communicating a mobile switching center code, a proxy identifier, a traffic restriction flag, and a packet data unit type. By aggregating this information at the application server into a useful form for devices used in billing and operations, information technology (IT) overhead for billing and operations systems support is reduced. Also lowered is the congestion present on the network, as fewer links are necessary between servers and proxies. The proxy gateway is situated between a circuit-switched network providing access services and a packet-switched network providing connectivity services. The gateway also is coupled to an application server on the packet-switched network.

    • A method and system for providing a user of a wireless communication device (WCD) with vending service. The WCD may present the user with data indicating items available for purchase from a vendor. The WCD may then receive the user's directive to order an item from the vendor. In response, the WCD may obtain data stored at a transponder in proximity to the WCD that indicates a location of the WCD. In one example, the transponder may be at a fixed location, such as by being affixed to a fixed object at a venue (e.g., a stadium seat), in which case the stored data may indicate the fixed location. The WCD may then send an order for the item and the obtained data to the vendor. In turn, the vendor may use the data to determine a location of the WCD and then deliver the item to the determined location.

    • Methods and systems are described for providing a presence service that is particularly useful for mobile telecommunications devices. A plurality of outgoing presence updates are sent to a presence client. The system monitors the level of network traffic and determines whether the client is in a region of high network load. If the client is in a region experiencing a condition of high network load, the system throttles the outgoing presence updates during the condition of high network load. The level of throttling may depend at least in part on the amount of time that has elapsed since the presence client began a presence session, and/or the amount of time that has elapsed since an incoming presence update was received from the presence client. In determining the latter amount of elapsed time, the system may consider only the amount of time elapsed since an incoming non-automatic presence update was received from the presence client. When presence updates are throttled, the may schedule presence updates such that at least a minimum delay period elapses between consecutive updates to a particular client.
