    • A digital radiography (20) detector has a first housing (18) having substantially the form factor of a film cassette and having a chest wall edge (C). The first housing (18) has an X-ray converter (70) with a detection array (26), each detector generating a signal according to an amount of radiation received. Readout electronics (74) are coupled with switching elements in the detection array for obtaining the signals therefrom. The readout electronics (74) include elements formed from crystalline silicon and are distributed toward outer edges of the first housing (18) and away from the chest wall edge (C). X-ray shielding selectively protects the readout electronics (74) and is located beneath a portion of the detection array. A second housing (40), electrically connected to the first housing (18) has a power source for the detector, readout and control electronics for obtaining signals provided from the detection array (26).

    • A replaceable modular opto-mechanical unit includes a light source in the form of, for example, a laser assembly; an optical modulator assembly which modulates light from the light source; and a lens located in a light path between the light source and the optical modulator assembly. The lens focuses the light from said light source toward a center of the optical modulator assembly. The unit further includes a base adapted to removably support the light source, the optical modulator assembly and the lens in an optically aligned manner. The base is further adapted to be removably attached onto a receiving structure of a printer, such that an attachment of the base having the optically aligned light source, optical modulator assembly, and lens supported thereon, permits light from the optical modulator assembly to be focussed onto an optical element of the printer.

    • A print guide mechanism having parallel first and second guide rods, and a carriage assembly designed to move along the guide rods. The carriage assembly in a preferred embodiment comprises a frame and at least one pair of associated roller bearing assemblies being secured to the frame and being arranged so as to engage the first guide support rod for providing linear movement of the carriage assembly along the first guide rod, at least one upper roller bearing assembly mounted to the frame for engagement with the second guide rod, and a first mounting assembly having at least one lower roller bearing assembly. The at least one upper and lower roller bearing assemblies are arranged so as to engage the second guide rod between. The first mounting assembly is pivotally mounted to the frame so as to compensate for parallel misalignment between the guide rods and is biased for applying a loading force so that positive engagement is provided between the guide rods and the roller bearing assemblies. In the preferred embodiment at least one of the roller bearing assemblies having an outer engaging surface made of a material having a modulus of elasticity less than the modulus of the guide rod which it engages.
