    • A flow control system for a fuel injector for an internal combustion engine is provided and includes an inlet port, an outlet, a return port, a 2-way control valve including a control valve member, a shuttle valve and a main valve. The control valve includes a first seat, a first resilient arrangement configured to force the control valve member towards the seat so as to close the control valve, and a first abutment that limits the lift of the control valve member away from the first seat. The first seat of the control valve is slidably arranged in the shuttle control chamber. An end stop for the first seat is provided such that the pressure in a shuttle control chamber tends to move the first seat towards the end stop. The first seat, upon its mechanical contact with a valve member is able to transmit at least a part of the force of the resilient means onto a shuttle valve body in the opening direction of the shuttle valve.

    • A fuel injection system for an internal combustion engine includes an engine management system (EMS), a return line connected to a low-pressure fuel system, a common rail for storing and supplying a relatively high-pressure fuel to an injector, and an automatic isolating valve installed between the common rail and the injector. The injector has a nozzle for injecting fuel into the engine. A valve is operated by the EMS and installed between the common rail and the nozzle. A spill valve is operated by the EMS and connected by its inlet to the outlet of the valve and by its outlet to the return line. A check valve is installed between the nozzle and the return line, the inlet of the check valve being connected to the inlet of the nozzle.

    • A valve actuation system for providing added motion in the valve mechanism of an internal combustion engine with at least one inlet valve and at least one exhaust valve is provided. The valve mechanism includes a rotatable camshaft including rising and falling ramps designed to interact with a valve control plunger inside a cylinder for actuation of the inlet or exhaust valve under the action of a valve spring. The cylinder communicates with a hydraulic fluid feed line via a check valve and with a hydraulic control circuit allowing a return movement of a valve to be delayed in relation to the timing of the corresponding falling ramp. The hydraulic control circuit includes a first and a second hydraulic fluid flow restrictor connected to the control plunger cylinder at different levels along its longitudinal axis. A selector valve enables a connection between the cylinder and hydraulic fluid return line to be opened via either one only or both flow restrictors.

The injection system also comprises a common rail (10) for fuel and a control valve (9) installed between the plunger chamber (7) and the common rail (10), wherein the control valve is able to open or close hydraulic communication between the plunger chamber and the common rail upon receiving an electrical control command. An electrically actuated nozzle control valve (21) is used for opening and closing of the nozzle (2). The system also comprises a means (11) for pressurizing the common rail and regulating pressure of the fuel in the common rail (10).
