    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a checkup apparatus for plastic optical fibers that can be used while manufacturing is being made by a manufacturing apparatus for plastic optical fibers by melt extrusion molding, is free from restrictions on core diameter and cladding diameter, enables the extra cost and labor required if a checkup apparatus is newly added to be saved and, moreover, facilitates maintenance of the checkup apparatus and its adjustment during the manufacturing process, and a manufacturing apparatus for plastic optical fibers equipped with such a checkup apparatus.SOLUTION: A checkup apparatus 10 for plastic optical fibers comprises a light inlet 21 fitted detachably to the upper end of a hopper 11 of a core melt extruder 2; a laser beam source 22 that is disposed outside the hopper 11 and supplies a laser beam 24 in the same direction as the axis of a molten core outlet 15 from the light inlet 21 into the hopper 11; and a light loss measuring unit 23 that is disposed on the downstream side of the outlet of a multi-layer spinning nozzle 7 and measures any loss in the laser beam 24.
