    • PURPOSE:To obtain a display device using fine spacers which are formed in prescribed positions with good accuracy by using a thin conductive film formed on a substrate as an electrode and electrodepositing a high polymer thereon. CONSTITUTION:A high polymer into which, for example, a carboxylic group is introduced and of which the carboxyl group is neutralized and water-solubilized by an inorg. alkali, org. amine, etc. is used. When an electrode is dipped in the aq. soln. of the water-solubilized high polymer and a voltage is impressed thereon, the carboxyl anion dissociated in the aq. soln. migrates electrically and reacts with the proton generated by the electrolysis of the water on the electrode, by which the high polymer is insolubilized and deposited. Namely, the reaction expressed by the formula I takes place on the anode and the deposition of the high polymer is observed. The adduct of s natural drying oil and a maleic acid, an alkyd resin introduced therein with a carboxyl group, the adduct of an epoxy resin and a maleic acid, a polybutadiene resin introduced therein with a carboxyl group, a copolymer of an acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and ester thereof, etc. are used as the high polymer for such electrodeposition. Other high polymer or an org. compd. having a functional group is introduced into the skeleton thereof.

    • PURPOSE:To obviate deviation in patterns even if display patterns are fine and to enable color change without application of special prevention for dying by using a thin conductive film on a substrate as an electrode and forming a colored layer by electrodeposition from a soln. prepd. by dispersing a high polymer and a dye hardly soluble or insoluble in water. CONSTITUTION:A methyl cellosolve dissolved therein with a dye is added to an aq. soln. dissolved therein with ''ESVIA ED-3000'' to disperse uniformly the dye therein. A display substrate 6 on which display electrodes 7 is formed is dipped in such electrodeposting bath. The electrodes desired to be colored to the same color among the electrodes 7 patterned to a stripe shape are selected and 10V voltage is impressed for 3min on the selected electrodes as an anode. The substrate 6 is pulled out after the conduction of electricity and is thoroughly rinsed so that the soln. sticking on the parts not impressed with the voltage is washed away. When the substrate is dried after the rinsing, the colored layer having good transparency is formed on the electrodes impressed with the voltage. The polyester resin and melamine resin in the colored layer formed by the electrodeposition are stoved to effect a condensation reaction, by which the resins are cured.

Therefore, a + or -3V rectangular wave is applied between the common electrode C1 and the digit electrode A1 and a driving voltage attains to >=2.0V, so a red-colored film turns on. In-phase signals are applied to the common electrode C1 and digit electrode B1, so the liquid display does not display red. Thus, the common electrodes are driven selectively to obtain a multicolor display on the liquid crystal which provides only a monochromatic display.

    • PURPOSE:To perform highly accurately and easily multicolored surface coloring by selectively repeating the processes of anodic oxidization and coloring after a thin Al film which is patterned on the surface of a substrate to a desired shape is formed. CONSTITUTION:After a thin Al film 1 is formed on the whole surface of a substrate 2 by vacuum deposition method, etc., the film 1 is divided into, for example, four parts (a), (b), (c) and (d) by the method of dry etching, etc., so that each part can be perfectly separated electrically from each other. In the same manner, the other parts (b), (c), and (d) are successively colored to desired colors by using different dyes and then subjected to the hole sealing treatment. In this way, a surface colored body of a minute pattern having an excellent chemical-resistant, heat-resistant, and light-resistant properties can be obtained with a high accuracy. It is possible to form an Al film on the transparent electrode of a liquid crystal display device and to color the Al film under a multicolored condition in the same manner.
