摘要： A battery charger (100) includes a charging pocket (112) capable of receiving either a first battery (102) in a first orientation or a second battery (104) in a second orientation. The charging pocket (112) includes a first set of contacts (170) and a second set of contacts (152). The contacts (172-175) of the first set of contacts (170) have a first spacing so as to mate with contacts (187) disposed on the first battery (102) when the first battery (102) is inserted into the charging pocket (112). The contacts (154-157) of the second set of contacts (152) have a second spacing so as to mate with contacts (199) disposed on the second battery (104) when the second battery (104) is inserted into the charging pocket (112). By providing two sets of contacts (170, 152) in a single charging pocket (112), the battery charger (100) can charge batteries (102, 104) having dissimilarly positioned contacts.

摘要： A support base for a display monitor provides for the stable orientation of the monitor over a range of tilt angles. An upper portion of the base includes a concave surface adapted to receive a complementary convex lower portion of the display monitor's cabinet. The concave surface of the base includes a pair of spaced, upraised, parallel, elongated, lateral guide rails adapted to receive and engage respective guide rail assemblies positioned on the convex lower portion of the monitor. The convex lower portion of the cabinet is further provided with a center projection for insertion within an elongated center aperture in the concave support surface positioned between the paired guide rails. The center projection is coupled to the base by means of a stretchable element such as an extension spring for applying a moment to the monitor tending to rotate it in a first direction within the concave surface. The biasing spring is coupled to the monitor such that the first direction of rotation is opposite to the rotational moment of the monitor due to its center of gravity. The monitor is thus maintained, once oriented as desired, at a stable tilt angle by these opposing moments. Each of the guide assemblies positioned on the cabinet's lower convex surface includes engaging means such as the combination of a spring washer and tension clip for engaging a respective guide rail in maintaining the monitor firmly positioned within the base's concave surface.

摘要： An ultra-compact projection television receiver is disclosed comprising in combination cabinet means for enclosing the receiver components including a vertically reciprocable, rear projection viewing screen selectively storable in the cabinet. Precision elevating means provides for raising and lowering the screen between a stored position in the cabinet and a receiver-operable viewing wherein the screen is emerged. A television system has an ON control mode for providing television sound and pictures and an OFF control mode. Control means coupled to the elevating means and the television system provide for sensing the position of the screen in its reciprocation, and obstructions to said reciprocation manifested by increased resistance to said reciprocation, and correlatively controlling the elevating means and the OFF/ON control modes of the television system in response thereto. The control means are programmed to cause the screen to rise smoothly to its raised position without an abrupt stop and pictures to appear and sound to be heard the instant the raised position is attained. Safety is enhanced as obstructions to screen reciprocation are sensed and the reciprocation is stopped. The receiver is caused to automatically place the television system in the OFF mode when the screen is stored.
