    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve receiving performance in a digital broadcast transmitter and receiver. SOLUTION: The digital broadcast receiver includes a tuner to receive a stream, a demodulating part to demodulate the received stream, and an equalizing part to equalize the demodulated stream. The stream is transmitted from the digital broadcast transmitter and receiver including a trellis coding part. The trellis coding part includes a first memory, a first MUX connected to the first memory to output one of a know input signal and a value stored in the first memory in accordance with a control signal, a first adder for adding the output of the first MUX and the value stored in the first memory to output it, a second memory, a third memory which is connected to the second memory and to which the value of the second memory is shifted, and a second MUX to output one of the known input signal and the value stored in the third memory in accordance with the control signal, and a second adder for adding the output of the second MUX and the value stored in the third memory to provide it to the second memory.
