SOLUTION: The digital broadcast receiver includes a tuner section for receiving a stream from a digital broadcast transmitter, a demodulating section for demodulating the stream, and an equalizing section for equalizing the decoded stream. The stream includes initialization bites used to initialize the trellis encoding section included the digital broadcast transmitter. The digital broadcast receiver further includes a decoding section for decoding the equalized stream, a deinterleaving section for rearranging the decoded stream and an RS decoding section for RS-decoding the stream rearranged in the deinterleaving section.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reception performance of an ATSC VSB system being a terrestrial DTV system for the United States. SOLUTION: A digital broadcasting receiver includes: a demodulator receiving and demodulating a transmission stream including a normal data stream and additional data streams; an equalizer equalizing the demodulated stream; and a turbo decoder decoding the additional data stream from the equalized stream. In a digital broadcasting transmitter, the streams are converted from a byte unit into a symbol unit, encoded, interleaved and then, converted into the byte unit again, so as to be trellis-encoded.
