    • Methods, systems and apparatus for filter design, analysis and adjustment are provided. Various embodiments may include, for example, methods, systems and apparatus for electric signal filter tuning. Embodiments may also include design techniques for planar electric signal (e.g., RF signals) filter tuning. In at least an embodiment of the present invention a technique for filter tuning is provided which may include parameter extraction, optimization and tuning recipes techniques that may require only a single permanent filter tuning. In at least another embodiment a system and method of filter design, analysis and adjustment according to the present invention includes use of tuning that may be set using a mechanical scribing tool or a laser trimming device. In at least one other embodiment, a filter tuning technique may be provided and include providing trimming tabs on a resonator edge that may be disconnected or trimmed for filter tuning.

    • A tunable RF filter is provided. The filter comprises a signal transmission path having an input and an output, a plurality of resonant elements disposed along the signal transmission path between the input and output, and a plurality of non-resonant elements coupling the resonant elements. The resonant elements are coupled together to form a stop band having a plurality of transmission zeroes corresponding to respective frequencies of the resonant elements, and at least one sub-band between the transmission zeroes. The non-resonant elements comprise at least one variable non-resonant element for selectively introducing at least one reflection zero within the stop band to create a pass band in one of the sub-bands. The variable non-resonant elements may be configured for displacing the reflection zeroes along the stop band to selectively move the pass band within the sub-band or within selected sub-bands.

    • A resonator and filter including the resonator is disclosed. The resonator (100) includes an open conductive loop (100) with folded transmission line segments (124, 134) extending from the adjacent ends of the loop. Of each transmission line segment, the portion emanating from the respective end of the loop is positioned generally alongside the corresponding portion of the other transmission line segment. That is, the two transmission line segments are folded away from each other. The resonator can be generally elongated in shape, with the loop at one end of the long axis and the transmission line segments at the other. The transmission line segments occupy a footprint (W2) that is not substantially greater than the width of the loop (W1). The filter includes multiple resonators of the invention, each resonator being coupled to at least another or the resonators. The resonators can be positioned in a side-by-side fashion, with the long axes of the resonators parallel or anti-parallel to one another.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tunable RF filter.SOLUTION: The filter includes: a signal transmission path having an input and an output; a plurality of resonant elements disposed along the single transmission path between the input and the output; and a plurality of nonresonant elements coupling the resonant elements together. The resonant elements are coupled together to form a stopband having a plurality of transmission zeroes corresponding to respective frequencies of the resonant elements and at least one sub band in the stopband. The nonresonant elements comprise at least one variable nonresonant element for selectively introducing at least one reflection zero within the stopband to create a passband in one of such sub bands. The variable nonresonant element may be configured for displacing the reflection zero along the stopband to selectively move the passband within the sub band or within selected sub bands.
