    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method where, while controlling the flow of a molten steel in a mold by an electromagnetic coil system combinedly usable for electromagnetic braking and electromagnetic stirring, a steel is continuously cast, in which the application mode of electric current to a combination coil is materialized.
      SOLUTION: Electromagnetic coils each having two coils 5b coiled around the respective outer circumferential parts of two magnetic pole iron cores 5a, and one coil 5c coiled around the outer circumferential part of the matched two magnetic pole iron cores 5a are arranged at the outer circumference of the respective long sides 3b of a mold 3 by the same number, (2n+2) pieces (n is natural number) in the total of the outer circumferences of the long sides 3b. When a molten steel 2 is subjected to electromagnetic stirring, three or more polyphase ac with a current phase difference of 90 to 120 degrees is made to flow to the respective coils 5b, 5c in all the electromagnetic coils. When electromagnetic braking is applied to the molten steel 2, per electromagnetic coil, dc is made to flow to the coils 5c, or dc is made to flow to the three coils 5b, 5c, and the steel is continuously cast. The electromagnetic braking or electromagnetic stirring is selectively changed in accordance with the componential composition and the feed quantity of the molten steel 2 fed to the mold 3. According to this invention, a satisfactory slab can be stably obtained without depending on steel kinds and casting conditions.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure the sufficient performances in an electromagnetic brake and an electromagnetic stirring, related to a method for continuously casting steel while controlling the flowing of molten steel in a mold by using an electromagnetic coil unit useable for the electromagnetic brake together with the electromagnetic stirring, for example, when a slab is continuously cast.
      SOLUTION: This continuous casting method is the one, with which the electromagnetic brake or the electromagnetic stirring is selectively acted to the molten steel 2 by making to flow a direct current or multi-phase alternating current having ≥3 phases to coils arranged at the outer circumference of the long wall sides 3b. The coils are arranged to the same pieces on each long wall side and (2n+2) (n is natural number) in the total in the mold. Each coil set has two pieces of coils wound on the outer circumferential part in the respective magnetic pole iron core and one piece of coil wound on the outer circumferential part with two pieces of magnetic pole iron cores together. At the electromagnetic stirring time, in the adjacent coils at each long wall side, the multi-phase alternating current having 90° to 120° current phase difference is made to flow. Further, at the electromagnetic braking time, the direct current is made to flow to the one piece of coil wound on the outer circumferential part to each coil set with two pieces of magnetic pole iron cores together, or the direct current is made to flow three pieces of coils.

By this method, the electromagnetic force J×B is vertically added to the molten steel 1 flowing between the electromagnets 9. Therein, the direction of the static magnetic field B is decided so that the electromagnetic force J×B is generated in the gravity direction. Therefore, the molten steel 1 flowing in the tundish from the one end part to the other end part receives the electromagnetic force in the gravity direction at the time of passing through between the electromagnets 9. By this method, the rising force in the direction reveres to gravity is added to foreign matter having no electric conductivity in the molten steel 1 to subject the inclusion to floatation separation.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a pig iron without using a coke furnace, etc., and without receiving the limitation for raw materials by bringing a rod-shaped molding of raw material powder contg. powdery iron oxide into contact, in counter current, with the high-temp. reducing gas generated in a melting and gasifying furnace in the lower part of a molding machine and melting the reduced iron formed in such a manner in the above-mentioned furnace. CONSTITUTION:Pulverized coal 15, powdery iron ore 16 and binder 17 are mixed 11 and the mixture is supplied 13, 10, 12 into a charging hopper 19. After the mixture in the hopper 9 is press-molded by the molding machine 7, the molding is let off in the form of a rod continuously downward from the lower part of the machine so as to descend in a transfer pipe 8. On the other hand, the high-temp. reducing gas which consists essentially of CO and H2 and is generated by the combustion reaction of O2 and pulverized coal respectively fed 2 and 3 from the bottom of the melting and gasifying furnace 1 is raised in the pipe 8 from the upper part of the furnace. The rod-shaped molding 18 and the reducing gas are brought into contact, in counter current, with each other in the pipe 8 to soften, melt and calcine the coal in the molding 18 as well as to progress the reduction reaction of the powder ore. The powder ore is converted to the reduced iron during the time when the powder ore in the molding 18 arrives at the furnace 1 in succession to the above. The pig iron and slag formed in the furnace 1 are led 6 to the outside of the furnace.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce energy consumption and to contrive use of lower grade raw materials by combining a vertical furnace for making carbonization of molded coal and gas reduction of iron ore and a melting and gasifying furnace for melting a reduced iron and producing a reducing gas. CONSTITUTION:The molded coal formed by molding pulverized coal and the iron ore are charged into the moving bed type vertical furnace 1 where the iron ore is reduced by the high-temp. reducing gas from a reducing gas supplying line 27 and the molded coal is carbonized by the sensible heat of the gas. The reduced iron ore and the carbonized molded coal are charged to the upper part of the coke packed bed in the melting and gasifying furnace 2. The high- temp. reducing gas is ascended in the coke packed bed to melt the reduced iron ore and to allow the molten metal thereof to flow downward in the coke packed bed in the counter current with the ascending gas. The unreduced metallic oxide is reduced by the coke in the process on the down stream thereof, by which the molten iron is obtd.

In such a state that the molten steel is subjected to electromagnetic stirring, the melting speed of the mold flux is held to a proper state, and the operation of the casting can be stabilized, and further, an extralow carbon steel slab having satisfactory surface cleanliness can be obtained.
